Same reason he didn't rouse the Worm of World's End perhaps - he wouldn't have survived the outcome without the ring.

I think one need look nearer to home on this one - the Demondin surely have the power and the skill to do this with the Illearth Stone. This seems to me to be most likely what Kassie was telling the Demondin to do when Anele's burning persona gave them their instructions outside Revelstone.
I'd say that Kas is in charge.
He's like Foul, and Es is like a Raver. (not quite on either counts, I mean that Kas doesn't do much for himself)
Esmer just does his bidding, but in the end, there may be a nice confrontation, with Esmer facing his Grandad, but with just a pinch of his fathers' influence.
Kind of like the part we're all expecting between Cov and Roger, or Linden and Jer.
I thought you were a ripe grape
a cabernet sauvignon
a bottle in the cellar
the kind you keep for a really long time
If the Skurj were the problem in the north, that needed Kastenessen, think on what was said about it.
In the farthest north of the world, where winter has its roots of ice and cold, a fire had been born among the foundations of the firmament. I do not speak of the cause of that fire, but only of its jeopardy to the Earth.
Because of his despair, we were compelled to bind him to his place, reaving him of name and choice and time to set him as a keystone for the threatened foundation of the north. Thus was the fire capped, and the Earth preserved, and Kastenessen lost.
Now Elohim are like concentrated earthpower (assumption) and one of them was needed as a barrier to the fire, it follows that the fire was not natural. More like a bane, like the illearth stone or a corruption of earthpower like the sunbane.
Banes in my opinion are the earthpower of Lord Foul, power of the dark side. Now what happens when earthpower meets banepower, the stronger wins. Foul's on this side of the arch, so he's aiding the banepower. Creater is on the other side and can't reach over to aid earthpower.
Now, if you've been following so far, look at the possible outcomes:
If Kastenessen gets that healthy glow (corrupted) and likewise making Anele like a heat source when possessed, then wouldn't the original fire continue in the north and rend the earth. Yet, the report from the Elohim said "a bane of great puissance and ferocity in the far north had slipped its bonds, and had found release in Mount Thunder". Skurj came home to papa (you know how he likes to make things, at home).
Kastenessen wins and now has some new pets. Well this is assuming Kastenessen awake. Well he's not, he's a dumb plug made by his fellow Elohim.
And when you read of Anele's (by the way, that's Elena, as in High Lord Elena, backwards) 2 fire possessions, the first he takes a predatory step, opens his mouth and exhales. The second, he walks to the Demondim, stands and looks around, like one bane viewing another. No talking either time, more like a creature, a skurj, a hot squirmy wormy who ran back home because it couldn't get anywhere up north..
So where's Kastenessen, still protecting the threatened foundation of the north, although the threats gone, so is his mind and will. Think someone is going to come wake him up?
Well, my brain has gone gas-free, so feel free to beat me up, hurt me, hurt me.
Okay, here is another view to add to the list. Kastenessen is set as the keystone to stop the fire. Kinda like a plug in a volcano if you will.
The question arises how could One last forever in such a state, after the statement, " slipping his bonds". Well, perhaps kastenessen became part and parcel of the " fire'. Having independence to break the Elohim weird, also allows him to be fully " converted" or transfigured to what all indications point to being the skurj. The mystery isn't in breaking the " durance". The mystery is what kind of Creature Could break a durance.
The answer appears to be one hot head for sure. Breathing fire on Linden. Smoken the demondim. Egads, half fire lion and half Elohim. Reminds me of a exaggerated " fire and brimstone" preacher.
Lindens assumption is that whatever the creature is that hotly possesses Anele , isn't as powerful as Foul. There is the pyrotechnics, but for some reason,,not as powerful as Foul. Maybe its the " basturd" nature of the being that makes it weaker................MEL
Kastenessen was bound by the Elohim for a purpose. In RoE we have a broken Durance and a released skurj and Anele being possed by a creature of fire. But what was Kastenessen original purpose?
Could it be that the skurj is magma upheavals cause by sudden tectonic plate momements. Kinda like the events in Earth's history that caused lava flows like Deccan Traps in India or Siberian Traps in Asia? This would explain Landsdrop. For instances:
In the remote history, (Perhaps 25000 years earlier from RoE) a violent and sudden plate shift occurred. This shift cause massive upwelling of magma below the Lands surface. This is the event that caused Landsdrop.
This upwelling would have lasted for hundred of thousand of years and devestated the Land or even destroying the world. The lava flow would have interfered with life and growth of the Land. A remmant of this event is Hotasy Slay.
To quell the the upheaval, an Elohimfest was convened and Kastenessen was chosen. More as a punishment for his interaction with the life in the world instead of being a part of the world's life(Elohim) and "he was in the area". His duty was to slow the plate shift and seal the cracks it made thus stopping the upheavals. This is his Durance, his duty, his power he preforms. To keep the cracks of the Land from re-opening and destroying the world. The skurj are the massive lava flows.
Over time, Kastenessen, who is embedded into the earth aquires the aspects or nature of the skurj. His wurd has been transformed. He believes he has control or has stablized the plate movements. He is wrong because in the beginning he couldn't seal the cracks fully. (Hotash Slay). But being tranformed he believes and his transformation allow him to break the bond imposed by the other Elohim. He is the creature of fire that possed Alene twice. He has broken his Durance and the skruj can be freed if conditions allow it to be released. Kastenessen believes that he controlled the earth's momement, but his being is skewed. He has a passion for revenge. He was bound when he was with a human women. His original nature has changed and he is seeking revenge for his lost love.
This is my take on Kastenessen. So what cause the sudden plate movement? Foul did it. When Foul placed banes within the world he caused these things to happen. Must admit that Foul can really plan some long term cause and effects. Otherwise he wouldn't be Foul.
Edit :didn't see this post. adding mine here. Deleted my original thread.
What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?
