Increasing signature size

Post by Lord Mhoram »

How about it? I've had two signatures that I've tried to use and both were, I thought, a pretty reasonable size and they don't fit. :?

I seem to remember making this claim in the past (when I was using book quotes for sigs). A 300-500 character sig would be preferable.

300-500 seems good to me, too.

I don't really have a problem with a bigger signature, as long as people are reasonable about what they put in (and I don't see that being a problem here). Some of the banner sigs people have are pretty big, but I personally don't think they detract from the quality of the site. Don't know if 255 is the default word count setting, or if it's 255 for a techincal reason.

Jay, what do you think about this?

Since a lot of sigs are, like mine, basically big empty spaces anyway, I don't have a problem with it.

It's the default setting, and it can be changed - question is how hard is it to change. On my forums, I have a mod installed that affects sigs, so I can't be sure which options were there originally, but I think under General Admin > Configuration, there might be a word count option where you can change it (If there isn't, it gets technical and you have to go changing code).

Yeah, I found it. It's very simple to change, but I maybe think Vain just left it as it was because nobody asked for a change.

Bah. If I had my way, I would make the max signature only 4 characters long. I mean, why would anyone ever need more than 4 characters for a signature? I think you're all just greedy. :P -jay

(See? If I can do it with only 4 characters, you all can too.)

Heh, seriously though, yeah, I have no problem with increasing the sig size. As long as people don't start abusing it. But I don't think that'll happen here. If anyone abuses it, we'll just mock and/or ban that person until they stop. Heh.-jay

I advocate a preventative strategy. Just say "NO!" to drugs and obscene sig size.

Obscene is so subjective though. As the High Lord says, I don't think it'll be abused. And if we're wrong-- just cut them back again.
