A Covenant Fan Fiction website?

Post by Ariadoss »

I hope this is the proper place for this question. Would anyone be interested in a Fan Fiction website dedicated to the Chronicles? It would be like www.fanfiction.net/ except with a better layout and it would be strictly for fics related to Donaldson’s work. If I can get a decent amount of people who would like to submit fics I will create the site. If anyone has a better idea, maybe for a general fan fiction website pm me.

Thanks. ;)

I think it's a good idea...I'd at least try to write something for it.

I've written several COTC fan fictions. Some are here in the Hall of Gifts. I guess I don't have a problem with it and would write more if something interesting occured to me. :-)

I've written a handful of short pieces from Lord Foul's perspective, which are floating around in the Hall, and I've been meaning to finish that little run.

What are the names of the covenant fan fiction pieces here?

Sounds good, I guess I'll start working on it, anyone want to suggest a name for the site? I can put a prototype up right away. :)

I would call it Fantasy Quest, but of course that sounds too, um... "generic". :P

Mine is HERE, spread across several posts. Yes, it was posted under an alias; I was (and am) very self-conscious about my writing. Credit goes to aTOMiC (I think) for inspiring the idea 8)

Also what would you guys prefer fan fiction for only Donaldson's works, or should we include other authors? I have a Harry Potter fan fiction archive up, but it doesn't have all the features this new site will have, you can take a look at it here (if you want to of course):

As SRD has said that he really has no problem with fanfic, I think it's a great idea.

I think anything that give a TC option (and Gap, Mordant's Need, and SRD's other work) is a step up. I've not come across a site yet that has SRD-based fic. There are ups and downs to both options (SRD-only vs SRD+others)... SRD-only will allow focus, and not attract as many jokers. SRD+others will attract other fandoms and maybe help spread the word about SRD. I suppose it is a matter of how much space & bandwidth you have to work with, and how much time you're willing to spend on it.

The ff.net set-up is the most straightforward, though I've become partial to the eFiction set-up myself (places like Potions & Snitches, Tauri, and most especially Sycophant Hex). I don't think that's worth the trouble, though, unless someone has the time to maintain it and the money/room to host it.

I had a TC/LOTR fic started on my old computer that I was really fond of. Alas, the hard disk crashed. One of these days I may recover it. Also had a TC/Highlander one, but it was not so much a fic as a plot bunny with an intro paragraph. And it was bad.

I have a 2000 Gigs monthly bandwidth allowance. Space is not a big issue. I'm an eFiction developer ( sourceforge.net/users/ariadoss ), so I have access to the prerelease, I would use no other script. The site will be running on the latest 1.5a version of eFiction and I would like some help with the approving/rejecting of fan fics. Anyone want to help out?

Being a fic addict, I'm definitely in! Kinda excited that someone wants to take this on.

We have some fic on www.kevinswatch.com that could come over... and/or we could just go ahead and link straight to the archive. Do you want this to be a stand-alone site, or directly affiliated with KW? Feel free to PM me about details.

Standalone prefably, but would love to exchange links with KW (it is funny saying KW cause on my RPG site it stands for Knight's of Walpurgis, which is a top clan). I don't have any specifics worked out because I don't know what the fans want. I have some name ideas but they need work. Also the location is important, I wouldn't purchase a domain unless it became really popular but I could get a name.tk (but .tk domains are slowwww) or just have it be usharrypotter.com/name, name.ariadoss.com, name.hogwartslive.com, or something like that. :D

I think the site should be ready by the end of the month, at least it better be, cause I'll be starting college July 7th. Most of the site is finished, except for the layout and a character list, I got all the characters from the short stories, I just need to type them up.

The fanfic archive spoken about appears to be in existence now at space.wizards.pro/, but there is no SRD fanfic in it.

I noticed that the fanfics are meant to be sorted according to the book. I'm not sure how well that will work, as there are fertile areas like the time of the Old Lords that belong to no one book. Perhaps a time period based system would be better? My fanfic I just posted in another thread is also a tricky case as it relies on an event in The Wounded Land and uses a datum or two from The Runes of the Earth while taking place in the "real world" far from anything SRD wrote about.

How about something like:
- The Land: pre-history
- The Land: Old Lords
- The Land: New Lords
- The Land: Clave
- The Land: Masters
- The Land: multi-era
- The "real world"

(The above system is inspired by www.henneth-annun.net/, a very good site I have no affiliation with.)

Do you want to assist me I sort of abandoned the idea of it for a while because I've been working on a lot of things. eFiction 2.0 just came out and I've been meaning to upgrade. I would definitely appreciate someone to help me set up the fan fiction archive.

I'm starting a general fan fiction archive over at fanfiction.wizards.pro from which I will link to space.wizards.pro :D
