Eli Chick: Died 1879

Remember me, as you pass by
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so will you be,
Prepare yourself, to follow me.

--Inscription on a TombStone

An ancient graveyard, littered with Dead and
Plastic Flowers, Mourners debris, left with Love
And Forgotten.

A little old lady tending her sons, soft and
Faintly mindless chatter falling from her lips.
We talked, of course, there was no one else.
And she told me their story.

One had been taken by a stranger named Cancer,
The other on his sons birthday.
But she didn’t really hear what I had to
Say.

She seemed cheerful, and slightly out of place.
She left me there, among the lonely Dead.
I smiled softly,
And walked away.

 Foul's latest post reminded me I wanted to post this, but finding it in the folder I keep for things I have posted, I did a quick search, and it turns out I'd already done so. In fact, this was my first post to The Hall.

Oh well, I'll just bump it then. ;)

The Mourner's debris line blew me away! Overall very good!

Thanks folks.

For me, my favourite part of it has always been the inscription I copied off that old tombstone.
