Oooh, you are sooo close. You're still missing the magic word, though.

The failure of your cheating prompted me to go on a (unfortunately futile) search for my copies. Never the less, I am quite certain I remember this part correctly.

Clue 3:
Spoiler
Myste says that he has done it, and Darsint observes "that's what you people do"

I too am a big ol' cheater, but I believe I have discovered the answer!
"Wouldn't catch me doing that," Darsint commented sourly. He stood a step or two behind Myste, apparently watching for threats in all directions. "Haven't got the guts. Fighting I can do. But stand like that so the men won't panic? Make myself a target?" He seemed to be talking primarily to himself; nevertheless Myste turned to hear him. "Maybe that's what went wrong on Pythas," he added. "Couldn't rally the men."

"It was a different situation," said Myste, "in a different place. You did everything any man could have done there."

Darsint looked at Myste strangely. He took no discernible comfort in her words. Elega had the impression that Myste had unwittingly aggravated whatever troubled him.

"That's what you people do, isn't it," he muttered like a distressed songbird. "He does it. Both of you. You do 'everything.'"

Yes, but don't forget the original question:

What did Myste say that made him feel inadequate?

Darsint was dealing with his performance, maybe not 100% gracefully, but he was OK, until she said that he had done everything he could have. At this point he realizes that he was holding back, not fully committing himself to the cause. Sure, he used up his rifle's power pack, but what had he really given? What had he risked in order to save these people? To save Myste, the woman he loved. Nothing, really, while those around him were giving "everything" to save their kingdom, and the lives and futures of their families.

Jeez, how to top Woody's question.....Not gonna happen. How about this one instead:

What event convinces Castellan Lebbick that Terisa is telling the truth about Geraden's innocence?

I know this one, but it is too soon after my last question, so I'm going to hold off until someone else really has a chance to answer.

What if I confess that my last post and this one also contain embedded hints? Or are you determined to beat the truth out of me now that I have revealed myself to you? 8O

The Tor was the first lord to provide Joyse with any help when he was trying to free Mordant from Alend and Cadwal. How many men did he provide?

Oh, all right. It is too easy (answering directly, not the question itself), but I'll answer this one directly.

200

That was all he could bear to take the chance of losing.

Yep, and he regretted afterwards that he had pledged so few men.
