Very bad for you, yes.

On of my friend is in an ITV documentary on teenage drinking because of his fondness for absinthe shots.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't absinthe illegal in England, also? I know you can find it in Spain and Portugal, but even then it's usually not real absinthe, as it isn't made with wormwood and doesn't have any trujone, usually has a lot of impurities, etc.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

It's legal in the UK.
Wikipedia wrote:In the 1990s an importer realized that there was no UK law about its sale (it was never banned there) - other than the standard regulations governing alcoholic beverages - and it became available again in the UK for the first time in nearly a century (though with a prohibitively high tax reflecting the high ethanol content). It had also never been banned in Spain or Portugal, where it continues to be made. Recent European Union laws have allowed absinthe and absinthe-like liquors to once again be made commercially; however, regulations place strict controls on the thujone level.

AFAIK, the way they make it now is not the same method that was used historically. (The one that made you blind and mad, that is.)

Awful bloody stuff. Can't stand it.

I recall an incident of a young bloke in Nottingham dying after chugging a yard of absinthe 8O Not surprising, but still...

I bought a couple mini bottles of it for souvenirs while I was in Germany. Tried one of them (blech) and kept the others just to look at. *shrug*

Horrible, possibly the worst stuff i have ever tasted.

Isn't the whole point to pour it over sugar before you drink it, or something like that?

High, not sick. Of course, to some people, it's all the same. :P

You pour it over a sugar cube, then light the cube on fire. It looks cool...but yeah, that's about it. Blech.

I still find it hard to believe that some of us human beings would deliberately ingest or inhale narcotic poisons such as absinthe is.

Exactly. If someone drinks something by the yard, it's usually beer, but it doesn't have to be. I've never seen it done, but I'm given to understand it's a glass tube a yard long. Or was, at some point; it may not be now.

A yard of ale is indeed still a yard of ale. Also, it is a glass tube three feet long, with a bulb at the bottom, and a bell-shaped opening at the top. There are special stands for them. I haven't personally had one, but I've seen it done, and it's definitely impressive. Cail can probably tell you. :D ;)

A yard of absinthe is a scary thought. But let's face it: Trent Reznor with his glass of absinthe in the video for "The Perfect Drug" was hot.
Halfway down the stairs Is the stair where I sit. There isn't any other stair quite like it. I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top; So this is the stair where I always stop.
