I don't know if "force-field" is the right way of thinking about it, although I've always seen it like Cj has. More like a "resistance". Not like they're deflecting the rocks/arrows, so much as absorbing the impact, which is made possible by their shared power, which must link them together.

Exactly. I think of the damage-resistant properties of the wedge as a by-product of the way they're using their power, rather than a "force field". To use a crummy analogy, it's vaguely like digging a hole - the aim is to dig the hole, but it also makes you hot and tired as side effects. IMO, the ur-viles' increased resilience is something to do with all the power that's swilling around inside the wedge. And I think if the ur-viles were just moving in a wedge, and not focusing their power on the loremaster, they'd be as vulnerable as anyone.

Thanks for your ideas guys! Just finishes the Illearth War...boy did Troy stick his foot in his mouth! I don't think he deserved to be antagonized at the end like that, but it was his own fault.
Anyway, I think I'm done my line of questioning in this thread, thanks again!
