All other reading and computer game-playing activities have come to a halt. Finally got my hands on The Dark Tower Vol 6&7. Soon, the Stephen King forum shall be assaulted by my presence. ;)

Reading THE MISTS OF AVALON for a third time. For some reason the details of the book won't settle into my head and stay there -- just a few glimpses, such as getting lost on the way to the Isle of Avalon, or Morgan's final, restful partnership.

I do remember where Mordred grew up, and that's the reason I'm rereading it. I just read THE FIREBRAND, set mostly in Morgause's castle in Orkney, with Mordred an important character.

Just finished A Clash of Kings, myself. Finally got A Storm of Swords from the library, and will begin it when I get my homework done. Hope I can finish before HP6 comes out...

Read DT6 last night, onto DT7 today. Sort of sad to see how closely I'm approaching the end of a story that, for me, started 15 years ago. Almost hestitant to start the last book. :)

Finally managed to finish reading King Rat by China Mieville yesterday. Very good for a first book and on par with the Bas-Lag books, IMHO. I like jungle/drum and bass myself, so it was interesting to see how Mieville wove it into the main plot.

Back to re-reading The Sword of the Lictor by Gene Wolfe now. :D

Wondering when I'd be able to afford the last two, that's what. Actually, the answer is still not yet, a co-worker lent them to me. :)

I finally read Kim Stanley Robinson's THE YEARS OF RICE AND SALT.

I have to admit that I'm not too keen on the alternate history genre. But this novel's premise was extremely appealing.

With a unique vision and bold imagination, Robinson explores how our world would have evolved, taking a look at the history that could have been. To say that this project was ambitious would be a gross understatement. Just to consider the amount of research that must have gone into the writing of this book is staggering. And the result is a very engrossing novel.

It is, however, a complex and challenging book. Spanning more than 700 years and covering a group of related characters through multiple lifetimes, this is a novel for "deep thinkers." As such, it is a thought-provoking work that is unfortunately not for everyone.

THE YEARS OF RICE AND SALT is a literary achievement. As satisfying a book as you are likely to read this year. . .

Many thanks to all of you who encouraged me to give this one a shot!;-)As always, the full review can be found on the weblog. . .

Danlo, I think you will love Iain Banks's writing. :)

I will be reading Harry Potter 6 as soon as one of my children relinquishes his book. Tonight I am overlooking the closet lights on in their rooms. In the meantime I am reading an anthology of science fiction love stories, including a very good one by Lois McMaster Bujold called Winterfair Gifts. :)
Love as thou wilt.

I have this much self discipline: that I will finish my current book before picking up Half-Blood Prince. It on the stack across the room where I can see it.
