Feeling good: the final 'postable' Xenopaedia is 2/3 done (at 2000 words, so much shorter).

Well, yeah, I have another job. I never quit unless I know where I'm going. My starting pay will be higher than what I make here (which they say is as much as I'm allowed to make), the benefits are better, and they also want to hire Tom.

Hope the job searches work out for all of you looking. 8)

Farseer -- I hope something works out with your books. The manuscript you gave me is damned good -- I want to see your work in print!! 8)

Leper Fairy -- WAY TO GO!!!!! 8)

I am looking very much forward to my vacation starting on Friday. :) Unfortunately, the weather has been very hot and humid around here lately. It's like living in a rain forest or something, and it has my allergies and asthma going overtime. I've never been through a summer like this one. :-x Mold, pollen, humidity...last night I thought I was going into a full asthma attack and drop when I walked out of my air-conditioned work into the very hot & humid parking structure. My lungs felt like they were shutting down. And I can't laugh without wheezing, and I haven't felt fully awake/alert now for a few days. On the first part of my vacation, camping on a beach on Lake Huron, I plan do nothing but sleep in the sun. That might not help with the asthma, but it will put me in a much better frame of mind.

I thought it would be fun to go out for the swim team when I was a junior in high school. I think it was the 2nd practice that I decided it wasn't fun at all! I didn't go back and yeah, I wish I had.

In the middle of Summer O' Research. Wee...

Trying to sort out all of these journals I've downloaded that have to deal with modeling and predicting systems using Neural Networks and how they compare with other modeling methods like regression and differential equations.

All of these scientific articles manage to make me feel both really smart and completely stupid at the same time. But mostly stupid. Heh.

And my bum advisor hasn't been around for the last couple of weeks.

I know what I don't feel like; I don't feel like working. I have a week of vacation (that'll get cashed out), and 10 hours of sick leave (that won't get cashed out) and they expect me to work overtime these last 2 weeks. I think I'll actually work 10 hours less than regular time, thank you very much. And they had the nerve to imply that the place I'm going to is a sweatshop......at least I'll get to use my vacation time there!

One of the things that keeps me where I'm working is the months of sick time I have in my bank. If I leave, I would lose it all -- even though I accrued it by working there, just like the vacation time I would get cash for... :(

Where I work, vacation and sick time is kept in the same bank, and everything cashes out -- if they haven't used it up by making us take flex (mandatory extended holiday) time.

What keeps me there is the 12 years of knowledge and the matched savings I have invested in it, plus the need to earn a living.

I feel like 20 invisible ninjas jumped up and down on my back all night long.

I feel stiff and sore, and rather down about the situation with my cousin. I'm slowly and painfully wrapping my mind around the fact that he is already gone. The husk continues to function for a while, but soon, it will be put away for good.

I wish I'd been able to see him again--in a good situation--just one last time. Play a game of Balderdash or Settlers with him. Hear him laugh.

It makes me want to see every person I care about and squeeze them tight and tell them I love them. It makes me want to reaffirm life.

It also makes me want to crawl under the bed, curl into the fetal position and cry for days.

Sigh.

The world moves on....

Feeling good. This Friday I'm going to go out and eat with my mom and maybe catch a movie. Will also finally deliver on that promise I made to duchess: that I'll eat the Bruster's ice cream flavor she specified ("black forest", I think). mmmm

Speaking of ice cream: next week, I plan on making a pilgrimage with a friend of mine to the nearest Cold Stone Creamery, which is 40-odd miles from here. I gotta say, just looking at the Creamery's web site is driving me insane! Their cakes look so good it's wrong!

I suppose now is not a good time to tell you that I just heard on the radio last week that their product was being recalled due to salmonella contamination..... :(

It was Cold Stone's cake batter flavor. Any other choice should be just fine.

If you go on the first Saturday in August, know that those of us getting together in New York will also be sampling Cold Stone that day. 8)

We had these huge thunderstorms yesterday. They broke the disgusting heat and humidity. Today was sunny and cool. This wekend camping up on Lake Huron should have high's in the 70's, relatively dry air (for the Great lakes area) and sunny. Perfect camping weather! Image And perfect beach weather! Image

In fact, I should go upstairs and start packing in a few minutes.

Only one more work shift and I am FREE!!!!! :D :D :D :D
