OUTSTANDING!

We are off and running.
I really hated writing my bio last time. :-) I'll throw something together and send it over. I don't want to be the one that holds up the works.

I just sent off my bio to DL. No one will have to wait on me for the book to be finished. What a relief. :-)

Thank you, Tom. You were the second one in. :)

There are several authors who haven't been here lately. I will probably have to email them about the new arrangements. Those of you who are keeping track of this thread, know this: I am keeping track of your names... :hairs:

I should have mine in before the weekend is up. Glad to see that the project is gaining momentum again.

As am I. I didn't do all that stressing out for nothing. I just hope Myste is ok. :?

Guys, the reason I was so quick to send in my bio is because I didn't rewrite it. I simply clicked the message bar, went to "sent messages", and found my old pm to Myste with my old bio on it. From there on, it was a simple cut and paste operation. I mention this because the rest of you might be able to retreive your old bios this way.

I really wish i could have done that dAN. My "sent" folder went bye bye along with my job at George F. Young, Inc.. Hopeflully others will indeed benefit from your approach. :-)

dAN's trick worked for me, too -- yay! DL, I just sent you my bio. (I was worried that I'd sent it to Myste via my personal e-mail account and saved the post on my laptop -- you know, the one that I can no longer get on the Internet from....)

Thank you, Tulizar and aliantha.

I think I'll be using the same bio I wrote before, but I'll have to redo the Editor's Note.

Hey, guys, as I read some of these stories over with months' more experience under my belt, I'm finding more editor-type things that need to be done with them. If you're going to scream, do it now, but I promise it will be for the better.

Tom, could you tell us more about your experiences with Cafepress? For example, what is the gist of the contract? What percentage of income do they take? Anything else you think we would benefit from knowing?

Edge, do you have questions for Tom?

Joy,

There is no contract to be signed with cafepress outside of registering as a vendor. The minimum per unit charge for the book depends upon the number of pages.
I believe you can charge whatever cover price you like so long as it meets the minimum which I understand is the cost of producing the book. The book I had with cafepress I expected friends and family to buy so I set the price the lowest it would allow. If the Watch would like to produce some kind of profit to go to a charity or toward the expenses of running the message board we can specify a responsible name and address that would receive the profits to be distributed. I believe I can create a new entity on the site specifically for this project and make available the user name and password for those that have a part in managing the project. I will try to get specifics and post them.

BTW I trust your judgment regarding editorial changes. Feel free to add or change whatever your sensibilities dictate.

Tom

Personally, I see no reason for profits, unless Vain and Jay are feeling pressed by carrying our expenses? We'd like everyone here to be able to afford as many copies as they want.

Jay has checked in. Heh.

BTW, I haven't heard from any proofreaders yet.

I agree. I will set the price at the lowest level possible. Once the account is set I will make the access login and password available so that changes can be made without me. The lesson learned with Myste's absence is that there ought to be more than one member of the Watch responsible for Watch business in case, heaven forbid, one of us is knocked off the internet for a while.
When the time comes the book will have to be altered to meet a specific format to be uploaded. We will be responsible for page numbering, indexes and so on.
Here is the web page on the site with the specifications about the book.
www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/learn_book_info.aspx
I know there is a template that can be used to format the manuscript and so on to make things easier.

Just a thought -- would it make sense to have the book available under the same Cafepress link as Jay has been using for Watch t-shirts, etc.?

DL: I think my story was pretty clean, but if you feel compelled to fuss with it, go ahead. (Ah, the cursed Editor's Syndrome: the inability to let a piece of copy out of one's hands without changing *just one more little thing*...)

aliantha that isn't a bad idea. If Jay is willing to use the existing account he can add it. Its a very simple process.
