Yes, let us all talk things over through PMs. Talking is good. Not being respectful of each other isn't good.

And glad you liked my bio, MM. Heh.-jay

I hereby offer my humble services in writing what I'd like to call "A Bio for Atheists".

I have an idea inside my head.
(What're you talkin' about? You've never had an idea in your head.)

Anyway, we're here because of SRD. Should there be some mention of him in the book? A collective dedication perhaps. Does he know about the anthology, and should we send him a copy?

What of titles?

White Gold Reader (perhaps not)

Write Gold

Mountain's Peek

Mountain's Speak

Tales of the Ab-SRD

(or, less Donaldson related)

Psychic Spelunking

Bald Ego

What happened on the forums one day...

The People You Never Meet

I was naked when I wrote this

Tales of [literary pretentiousness deleted]

I went to High School with that guy!

You never know what you can write until somebody offers to not pay you to do it.

I could go on, but I'd just give myself a stomach ache.

I wrote about him in the Editor's Note. Anyone is free to mention him in their bios.

Romeo, if you're reading this, what do you think about telling him about it? We would of course be thrilled if he wanted to put a message in the Anthology.

I'm a little apprehensive about the idea to involve SRD in the Anthology. I don't know how to tiptoe around what I want to say, so I'll be plain:

I feel bad enough for those whose stories did not make it into the Anthology; don't you think having SRD acknowledge the Anthology with a personal message would be like adding insult to injury for the un-selected authors?

And what about SRD himself? Have you considered that you might be putting him in the awkward position of endorsing a product that he may not be entirely happy with? If SRD is going to lend his name and reputation to promote (if only tacitly) someone else's product, I imagine he'll want that product to be of the same standard he expects of himself. Which would be pretty damn high.

Maybe I'm just being silly, but...I don't know, guys. You might be playing with fire here. Oh, well, glad it's someone else's decision and not mine.

At one time I had suggested that we give SRD the option of writing a forward for the Anthology. At that time I never considered that he'd ever actually do it. But if he did I can't say I'd be all that unhappy.

As to Matrix's concerns about putting SRD in a spot. From what I've learned about the guy from his interviews I believe that he would never feel obligated or act due to a perceived obligation to us. His professional integrity is adamant and if he chose to add something to our little endeavor it would be without reservation and if he chose not to I believe he would be 100% honest with his refusal. Think about it this way. Suppose SRD heard about the Anthology and volunteered to add something. Who among us would refuse him? Not me. I would be honored and I believe most everyone else would be too.

As to the other writers who were not chosen for the Anthology all I can say is that I do feel for them but I doubt this will be the last time we try this so there will be other opportunities in the future.

BY THE WAY: JAY YOUR AVATAR ROCKS! I LOVE THE TICK.

About SRD adding a Foreword, I agree with all you said, Tom. Yes, I count on his integrity -- I can't see him saying anything about it that he didn't fully believe. So, if he wants to, I would be honored.

I can see where you're coming from with this. It'd be easy for anyone who's still sore about not being selected to take and SRD endorsement as rubbing salt in the wound. But I think everyone has pretty much come to terms with their rejections, and if they're immature enough to take any serious offence at SRD's (hypothetical) involvement, they must find the adult world a real struggle.

I think we've tied our hands enough already without trying to get SRD to write a forward to the anthology. Let him stay focussed on the 2nd Runes book!

Though I'm certain the distraction writing a forward for the Anthology wouldn't cause any noticeable delay in the completion of the Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, I do believe that Mr. Donaldson, if contacted about the project will likely decline the offer.
Don't worry yourself about it, dAN. :-)

I was originally hoping that the book would be ready by the holidays. :) I don't know if that is it at all possible, given the unavoidable delays -- but I'm sure it would add yet another big chunk of time to the project if we ask SRD to become involved.
Love as thou wilt.

I wasn't thinking about an introduction from SRD, just sending him a free copy. (These are your fans. I hope you're happy with yourself.) You could ask him in the GI, but he'd likely say no. Not because of us necessarily, but to prevent a floodgate of hack writers sending him material.

We still need a title. I rather liked What happened on the forums one day... and The People You Never Meet. They've got depth to them. The rest were just brain-storming.

So, [in best Tick voice] STORM THOSE BRAINS!

We've had several good suggestions, but rather than having to choose among every person's favorite unusual title, we are using

Ah, well. I was looking forward to storming the brains. Now I have to find a place for all those trebuchets.

LOL. I'm sure you'll think of something. Maybe you can set up war games among your various titles?

I like One More Bloody Thing To Pile On My Coffee Table, or perhaps This Is What Happens When You Lock Twelve Monkeys In A Room With One Typewriter, or maybe even I Went To Kevin's Watch And All I Got Was This Crummy Anthology.
