Yes, thanks everyone. Just for the record, yes, I am very proud of the fact that it took me more than a year to read something that it took people on average a couple of weeks to read. Heh... I feel like the slow kid in class who has to be congratulated when he gets his pants on right way.

Ok, now that I have been mocked sufficiently, have you all gotten it out of your system? Heh. It's alright, I fully deserve to be made fun of. It's my fault for taking so long to read the book, and it's my fault for not simply just lying about it and claim that I finished it months ago, heh.

Oh, and I'm sorry for stretching the page. Heh. I thought that might be a problem. Thanks for fixing that. Sorry. Really, I don't mean to be a jerk on top of being a slow reader, heh.

There were definitely scenes in Runes that I enjoyed (Usually anything with the Haruchai and Esmer), but overall, the pacing of the book killed me. Too much "I have to save my son from Lord Foul!!!" for me.

And dear lord! How many times does Linden have to "take a moment to think". She thinks through the whole blasted book!

Also, I've never been so sick of reading a word as I was reading the words "compunction" and "puissance".

I'm just SO glad that the book ended with that last page. As sad as it is to say, I probably would have been disappointed with Runes if it were not for that last page. Until that point, I was just sitting there thinking "Oh great....... How many more books am I going to have to read about Linden trying to save her son......... Is he really going to drag this out for three more books???" But then, by introducing Jeremiah and Covenant at the end, it totally changed the outlook of the series. A complete twist. I mean, OK, I sort of expected Covenant to show up at the end, but I didn't expect to see Jeremiah. It leaves the series open to a lot of possibilities in the next book, so it's hard to see where SRD is going to go with it, which is pretty cool.

Also, I think the whole history of the Haruchai is pretty cool, and it's a lot of fun to see how they have evolved (or haven't evolved, heh) over the course of the entire series. The main thing that I want to see out of the Last Chronicles is some sort of "Ultimate Redemption" for the Haruchai. I'm curious to see what SRD does with them. Because looking over the whole series, there's this huge background story about the Haruchai and how they have seen themselves as failures time and time again. Bannor, Cail, ect. It'd be awesome to see the Haruchai (or perhaps just Stave the way the series is going) to do something truly great and redeem their race.

So yeah, thanks all, heh. I couldn't have finished it without all of your support. And yes, now I'm in the same boat as all of you, and I have to wait patiently for the next book (except for Romeo, heh).

I just hope I don't spend all of my time now reading all of the crazy topics in this forum, heh.

And who the HELL is the Mahdoubt??? -jay

P.S. I still would like to see a Covenant/Linden/Liand/Pahni/Stave/Mahdoubt/Joan/Lord Foul/Esmer love triangle. Heh.

Since I hate myself, have low self-esteem, and because I like to put myself in a lot of pain and agony, the next book I read may quite possibly be the new Wheel of Time book, heh.

But since I don't even have the new Wheel of Time book yet, the next book will probably be Return Engagement by Turtledove, which is the first book in his Settling Accounts series, which itself is part of a larger series of alternate history books about an alternate world where the south won the Civil War. During the time I was reading Runes, I have fallen behind two books in that series, and I need to catch up, heh.-jay

It's a scary thought that Wheel of Time is likely to be completed many years before Last Chronicles. I think I'm going to finish Last Chronicles first, though. I stopped reading WoT after the fifth book and I had been reading it for free, courtesy of the local library. The only thing I'm planning to do about WoT once it's finished is to read the synopsis off the net, but I won't mind if I miss that.
