Daredevil Rocks!!!

Very cool, Syl! My wife and I took TKD for a while, before she got pregnant with our first. In our case, since neither of us is driven enough to do it alone, it helped to do it together. On days when I was too lazy to go, she dragged me there anyway, and vice-versa.

One of my heroes is a guy I graduated from HS with. He studied various martial arts here, in San Francisco, and I think somewhere in Florida. Then, he moved to Japan, not knowing anyone at all over there. After several years there, he began studying the sword with an instructor who is considered a national treasure by their government. That started several years ago. He had a sword custom made for him, to the tune of some thousands of dollars, which he is not allowed to take out of Japan. Apparently, it is extremely difficult to get the authorization to take any sword - the ones made using the famous Japanese method - out of the country.

I saw it at the movies with my kids and we all enjoyed it. My kids, however, felt that

Bullseye should have been killed in the bullseye on his forehead. They felt that that would have been a better end for him.

I'd buy it on DVD.

Well, there appears to be no shortage of Daredevil fans here. Thanks to an obsession with the Iron-man comics, I had to be careful with my comic collecting money. I bought my fair share of Daredevil books though. As to the film, I enjoyed it and I of course bought the dvd. If I have a complaint about the points of the story, I have to say it bothered me that after Elektra skewered DD, he was helpless to try and save her and yet after loosing a few pints of blood and crawling near death to the church, he manages to best not only Bullseye but the Kingpin as well. Hmmm…

I finally saw this on DVD the other night.
Although I was fearfull with all the past Mavel movie letdowns this one was GREAT.
Fist, I loved that subway scene too.
I thought the whole thing was done well to get it all in under 2 hours.

The one thing that was needed, imo, and it wouldn't have changed anything, was a voice over for certain parts.
Have DD explain what was going on for those not familiar with the Daredevil characters.

For instance,what would have helped my wife enjoy it (rather than telling me "that's kinda dumb" a few times) explain that something in the chemicals that blinded him increased his senses. It did but not good enough in my opinion.
And a quick voice over explaining that The KingPin wasn't fat but all muscle would have been nice to explain why he could throw DD around like that. Or show him working out in a private gym well Bullseye visited or something.
And how many people even had a clue about that sensory deprivation bed Matt Murdock set himself up with?

Bullseye was good too.
But didn't he request a costume?
The long jacket was the costume?

I'm not a fan of either Garner of Afleck but they both did a good job.

This was a pleasant surprise!

Gads, I didn't like this movie. I was also a big fan of daredevil, collecting shortly before the Miller days, right through to the Romita Jr. Days (great stuff).

What I liked:
- Kingpin was really well cast. Who cares if he is black, that guy was the Kingpin!
- Some of the movie moments, like the 'death' of Elektra, taken right from the panels of the comic. Sweet.
- loved the casting of Matt's dad! The hard-boiled boxing flashbacks were done well.
- visuals of Daredevil's radar effect was well done.
- managed to get in many of the important Daredevil moments.

What I didn't like (a longer list):
- I like Ben Affleck, but wasn't impressed with his casting, nor did I like Jen Garner: Elektra should be a darker charcter. I don't find her convincing at all (cute, yes, but not convincing as Elektra).
- Daredevil beating up Kingpin at the end. I'm sorry, but Daredevil has always had extreme difficulty dealing physically with the Kingpin. In his first encounter with him (in the comics) he was beaten nearly effortlessly by the big man (and stuffed down a sewer...) I think they could have left it more open in this respect.
- I didn't mind Bullseye being Irish (nice touch actually), but wasn't a fan of Colin's. Someone mentioned Billy Zane! Now THAT would have been excellent casting!
- the plot was quite thin, a watered down version of the comic arch. Could have been scripted better.

On the whole, after 3 watchings, I give it 7 out of 10.

I just watched Elektra for the first time. Not too bad. I wasn't expecting much, but got a bit more than that. Nice to see Stick (playing pool, no less!

) and the Chaste! Heh. But Stone was... Well, I'm not gonna say. Kirigi was entirely different, but better. Elektra had a power never seen in the comic. But then, nobody ever really knew what she could do. The Elektra: Assassin miniseries (Miller and Sienckeogfoaiosdkjogwitz) had some odd things, eh?

I love Frank Miller, and any artist in general who brings the "shock and awe" of nitty gritty "street level" realities to the comics. I'm nowhere near the conneseur you guys are, but I love Todd McFarlane, and Spawn. I know he did Spiderman (i think?), did he do any DD in his career?

I also love LOVE LOVE the Miller/Mazzucchelli Born Again story. Absolutely stunning! (And their Batman: Year 1 was nothing to sneeze at either!8O)

I just got reading this thread, and I have to say, I could not disagree more withthe assessment of the movie! I thought it was poorly acted, the story too middle of the road, and all in all no depth was parleyed to our main protagonists. I coukldn't have cared less when electra got murdered by bullseye, as opposed to in the comics (#189 I do believe) when she joined the choir invisible.
