i know the cookies you're talking about Av...but don't they call 'em BROWNIES???? heh. ;)
Oh, they don't have to be Brownies. In fact, as long as you heat it, almost anything works. Just finished the last batch of cherry & almond chocolate fudge actually. Anything works though, even sugar-cookies. :D

well, when I was "young" (heh), my Mom, who was on a "budget" (heh), used to make us something that was awesome, but I don't know what they're called: saltines on a baking sheet, put a marshmallow on each one, bake to golden brown, put top cracker on, and eat. mmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Russian Tea Cakes:
(These are also known as wedding cookies).

1 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
1/4 teaspoon salt
Powdered Sugar

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix margarine, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and the vanilla. Stir in flour, nuts and salt until dough holds together. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreesed cookie sheet. Bake until set but not brown.
(Now, most recipes will tell you to immediately roll your cookies while warm in powdered sugar. DO NOT do this - even though the coating adheres well to warm cookies, the sugar often tastes pasty because it has melted a bit. )
Wait until cookies have cooled, then roll them in a bowl of powdered sugar and shake off excess. Don't worry if the coating is spotty in places, just go ahead and store them in an airtight container.
When you are ready to serve them, roll them in the powdered sugar again to cover any bare spots.
Perfecto!

Now, here are my favorite cookie recipes:

Magic Cookie Bars

1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
1 14 ounce can Eagle Brand Sweetend Condensed Milk
1 Package Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
1 3 1/2 ounce can coconut
1 cup chopped nuts.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter. Add crumbs and press into pan to form crust. Pour sweetend condensed milk over crumbs. Then add chocolate, nuts and coconut in that order.
Bake 25-30 minutes. Completely cool before cutting.

Date Nut Balls
(These were the biggest hit at our wedding when we renewed our vows - my mom's recipe)
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
8 ounces chopped dates
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon canilla
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups Rice Krispies
Coconut

In a large Saucepan, cook butter, sugar and eggs for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Add canilla and nuts. Cool a little, then add rice krispies. Cool.
Make into 1 inch balls. Roll in coconut.

My mom's Honey Bars

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
1/4 cup honey
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup pecans
Mix all ingredients together. Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes
