I'm not convinced the point was to get the staff!! I think the point was to bring the Demondin back into being!
As the story progresses I think we will see that it's up to them to create a new space for foul to exist. They will be his Jailers in his new world at series end!!

That would work out well enough. Would be nice if foul was imprisoned by all the creations he brought into a miserable existence. Good thinking, hopefully it ends up something like that.
