The Creator's wife?
In WL, Sunder sings a song of the Clave that speaks of a-Jeroth's seduction of the Master's (i.e. presumably the Creator's) wife, and even names her (surname: Mininderain).
Does anyone have any conjecture about this, or indeed, the origins of the names 'a-Jeroth' or 'na-Mhoram'?
Peter.

Interesting passage - I don't think I ever noticed that before.
"na-Mhoram" came directly from Lord "Mhoram" - it said so in the book (during the soothtell?). I suspect, but I'm not sure, that "Mhoram" came from SRD's agent's name - Howard Morhaim. It's just too much of a coincidence.

And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

Chapter 8: The Corruption of the Sun, The Wounded Land:
This book broke my heart
I took this as just another lie of the Clave. They twisted all the old legends and stories to make it seem like the Creator or Master was a vengeful "God". This is a lie to explain the existance of Foul in the Land, and the Sunbane was punishment to "her" children, the people of the Land, for "her" infidility. I think the Clave made her up so the people would believe they deserved the Sunbane.'Oh come, my love, and bed with me:
Your mate knows neither lust nor heart--
Forget him in this ecstasy.
I joy to play the treacher's part.'
Acute with blandishments and spells
Spoke a-Jeroth of the Seven Hells.
Diassomer Mininderain,
The mate of might, and Master's wife,
All stars' and heavens' chatelaine,
With power over realm and strife,
Attended well, the story tells,
To a-Jeroth and the Sevens Hells
With a-Jeroth the lady ran;
Diassommer with fear and dread
Fled from the Master's ruling span.
On Earth she hides her trembling head,
While all about her laughter wells
From a-Jeroth of the Seven Hells.
'Forgive!' She cries with woe and pain;
Her treacher's laughter hurts her sore.
'His blandishments have been my bane.
I yearn my Master to adore.'
For in her ears the spurning knells
Of a-Jeroth of the Seven Hells.
Wrath is the Master--fire and rage.
Retribution fills his hands.
Attacking comes he, sword and gage,
'Gainst treachery in all the lands.
Then crippled are the cunning spells
Of a-Jeroth of the Seven Hells.
Mininderain he treats with rue;
No heaven-home for broken trust,
But children given to pursue
All treachery to death and dust.
Thus Earth became a gallow-fells.
For a-Jeroth of the Seven Hells.
This book broke my heart

But myth is often based on history, and we know how Foul likes to distort the truth rather than break it. I'd say it's a perverted history of Berek and his queen.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

thats something worth considering. It would definately poison the last vestiges of bereks legend, & thats seems 2 b a major part of samadhi's job as na-Mhoram.

You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.
In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.
He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

Actually, I have always wondered about Berek and his queen anyway...as far as I know we are never told who Damelon's mother is, and if it was the queen, he might have been conceived in an act of adultery, as she was married, and not to Berek...and we are never told her fate at the close of the war, and whether or not she even survived, much less remarried to Berek...
I have many questions about the Old Lords...I hope that some of them might be answered in the Third Chrons...

If you wanted to know about Damelon's parents, you should have asked him when you visitedduchess of malfi wrote:as far as I know we are never told who Damelon's mother is

Hmmm...very interesting... We know so little about Berek, Damelon, Loric and Kevin. Maybe the Queen and Berek did get together. We do know that Berek "loved" his Queen. And that this story of the Clave's was an extreme distortion of it. They poisoned everything else.

And since so little is known about these ancient heroes (by those under the Clave's rule) the Clave's distortions are so much easier to create. They could pretty much say whatever suited their needs despite the inaccuracies. The Clave is simply misleading a suffering people who have virtually no true knowledge of Kevin, Loric and Damelon.
Or maybe the Creator's wife was getting a little bored ruling the stars and such. It happens.
