A decade? Damn. You keep hearing about these things, and want so much to see it happen, but everything always seems to take much longer than people expect.

It's that humans have problems planning for the long term, that's why. They're almost always limited, (consciously or not) by their lifespans. What they should have been doing is planning centuries ahead...for the benefit of future humans.

Instead, they're so caught up in the here and now that they have trouble realising not only how limited it is, but how ephemeral.
