I am in the apogee of my solipsistic godhood. Had lunch at the local Italian place, then finished off with a bit of ice cream from Bruster's. Bought "A Wizard of Earthsea", thus starting my journey through the Earthsea Cycle. In addition, I encountered my history professor at the local Barnes and Noble. He was wearing his Dumbledore hat, so I didn't recognize him until he turned around. All said, a momentous day!

Good luck Jay. You can do it. ;) No need to convince them...just demonstrate it. ;) But finish that damn proposal.

It's time for Good News/Bad News.

Good News: I finished my masters thesis proposal, met with my masters committee, and successfully fooled them into thinking that I have some sort of idea of what the hell I'm doing.

:nanaparty: :nanaparty: :nanaparty:

Bad News: I'm going through hell trying to get my last letter of recommendation from my last professor, so I can complete the application for MIT's graduate program, which was due January 2nd. Even though I gave him this stupid thing back on December 20th. Which I *thought* was enough time. This guy is just impossible of getting a hold of. Then he tells me that his e-mail isn't working. Now I have to give him a paper copy of the form so he can snail-mail it. Sheesh. I already feel stupid enough for not having this thing finished and done with earlier in the month. (Even though I took extra effort to submit this thing before Christmas, so I could avoid this sort of problem. Yet I was too damn shy to pester this professor after the holiday to make sure his letter was sent. Not that it was easy to get a hold of him anyway, since the whole stupid University is still on Winter Break.) I'm going to feel like total crap if I end up missing the window of opportunity all together. Sure, it's not like there was any real chance of making it into MIT anyway, but still, if I miss out on applying and don't even get the chance...

:x :x :x :x :x :x :x

DAMMIT!

Heh. Sorry. I just had to get that out of my system. I will now use this time to remember that there are billions of people in the world right now with a whole lot bigger issues than I do. This MIT thing is no big deal in comparison.-jay

But it's still a pain when someone else's inability to get things done puts you in the hole. Hope it works out for you - I think New England would be way better than Blacksburg. ;)

Glad to hear the committee meeting went well. I think part of the reason I keep switching programs is because I'm subconciously trying to avoid the whole thesis process. After all, it requires actual effort, with no external motivation. I will be doomed before I begin.

Managed to get registered for chemistry class. Unfortunately, I've discovered that I apparently mis-typed my SSN when applying for admission to the community college (because apparently you can't just go take the bloody class). So now I have to go down there and convince them that I am who I say I am. What actually troubles me more is the guy from the IT help desk who gave me an account ID to register online for class after I told him the correct SSN (which would appear wrong to him) and nothing more than my name and birth date. And we wonder why identity theft is so prevalent... I'm grateful, though, because I really did not want to brave the Registrar's Office two days before classes start. Crowds and I do not a good combination make. Still feeling unaccomplished, though. Maybe it's cause Jay's gonna graduate with a Master's before I even start accruing credits for mine...

Life has been very busy lately, and work has been brutally busy. Our hospital has had every inpatient bed filled since the New Year, and we have many extremely sick patients. To top it off, we have been replacing a major tech system, so we have had all had to try to squeeze in training for that while everything has been so busy. And everything that can get weird in a hospital has been happening...tonight one of the ICU patients was found to have an infestation. We were scrambling all night to get enough medicine (borrowing from all the local hospitals and pharmacies - some was even driven up from Ohio 8O ) to try to treat the patients in that ICU and all staff that had come into contact with that patient. You really do not want to get an infestation going in an ICU filled with critically sick people... :(

When not at work, I have been busy with family stuff. It is the heart of the wrestling season, and I have been going to one or two tournaments a weekend with my sons (one is in high school, the other in middle school).

My older son is also in the middle of his college application/decision period. Last weekend we went to Evanston to visit Northwestern University and its engineering school. Next weekend we will be going to Kalamazoo for him to visit the engineering school at Western Michigan University and also compete in a huge scholarship competition with some $40,000 scholarships up for grabs. We are going to try to fit in another visit to Ball State and its architecture school next month or in early March as well.

My son can never do anything the easy way. He wants to study civil/structural engineering and achitecture, and there are very few places he can do both at the same time, and those places were either very expensive or too far away from home for his comfort level so he did not apply at any of them. So he has to decide which field to focus on first, then go back and study the other as well (possibly in graduate school). The dean at Northwestern told him he could major in civil engineering, but take a year abroad and study architecture in his beloved Paris and have those credits count towards a degree in engineering. That certainly sounds promising. :)

His dream is to learn all sorts of high tech new tricks with nanotechnology and other such emerging things to design much stronger buildings and structures that can withstand major disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes.
Love as thou wilt.

Feeling ABSOLUTELY, TOTALLY and UTTERLY USELESS today! Even the simplest things seem beyond me, and the more difficult things are just impossible...so I've spent half an hour sobbing in front of my computer and feel a lot better. :)

Just woke up from an eventful Friday night. Feeling great, about to make some breakfast. Want to write, want to play video games, want to go outside, want to finish reading A Feast for Crows. Probably will do a little of each but not all of one. ;)
