Sirs,
Its not only annoying but darn difficult to have to wade through all the clever sayings that appear at the bottom of each and every posting. It wouldnt be so bad if they were different each time but to have to reread them over and over is a drag almighty. Further, some of us have vision problems and attending issues, (meaning that it takes extra effort and time to sort out the meat of the matter). Please reconsider this aspect of the site that is otherwise so much fun to use. Maybe peoples bon mots can go under there member name? And ADS!?! in posts? I thought we love the Land because we hate a world where there is so much advertising that its even in our posts. It looks like my romance with this site might be short lived despite its otherwise excellence. :-x

Ads? Can't say I've noticed any myself. And signatures are common practice on most message boards.

On the other hand, I've mentioned to Vain in the past that adding the "bottom-aligned signature" mod would be an improvement (it puts a gap in between the main body of the post and the signature).

Personally, as I mentioned in reply to the other post where you made this suggestion, I like them. I think they offer an insight into posters mind-sets.

And I don't think we culd really classify them as advertisements, and certainly not on the whole.

Hopefully, it won't put you off the Watch, but I hope that we will continue to allow them. I suggest not reading them if possible, and point out that familiarity will soon dull their impact on you, to the point where you'll fail to notice them. :)

BLACK FRIDAY@GOTTADEAL.COM seems to me to be an ad...but thats beside the point...its the visual NOISE factor thats the problem, and if im supossed to become blind to them over time (which, unfortunately, im cogenitally unable to do) why bother? People's threshold for noise both audio and visual is so high now and Im not so sure the "frog in the warming pot of water and doesnt know the temp is slowly rising and so will boil to death" method of "getting used to it" is the way to go. Start a new thread or whatever with clever bon mots and ugly pictures in it, i come to the forums to TALK hopefully without having to wade through what is nothing less than personal egocentrism that smacks of self aggrandizement. All these clever sayings, if they appeared once would be an alright thing, but everytime you pop into a forum, there it is again (some of us are new and want to read all the previous posts, thats what makes it particularly Hotash Slayish)...Id call that a type advertising...someone trying to advertise how clever they are to use someone else's saying (just from the bloody repetition!). As I say, if these clever "sigs" (and some of them are quite clever, and in fact I'm glad I've seen some of them, yours Avatar, in fact, is my favorite. But I only needed to see it Once. Just Once was necessary)appeared in the profile I'd dig it.

And note! Im not the only one who dislikes (see many other postings), quite a few others dislike them too...The reasons arnt just aesthetic either, as was noted by me but failed to be acknowledged by Avatar, was the fact that it is HARD TO READ with the sigs to begin with, but in addition, and here are some caps to make this clear (dont misread as shouting now),

FOR SOME PEOPLE WITH VISUAL PROBLEMS AND SOME PEOPLE WITH ATTTENTION ISSUES AND OR DISLEXIA IT IS A REAL DRAG

...to deal with what is basically whimsical for sig lovers. When the sigs are bigger than the message most of the time, its time to review policy. Further all you RPG nerds who have advanced computers and dont even know the meaning of the word 'dial' and have generated these whole personae and clogged up the site with self representitive slogans and symbols, (and just to REPEAT, so you can get a feel for what I, and others, go through ) THAT APPEAR EACH AND EVERYTIME YOU POST A RESPONSE, it slows down many many others without your sleek fast machine and/or DSL.

PLEASE, have some consideration and lets have forums for what they are meant to be: places of discussion.

PS As for the statement that this is how other message boards are...firstly, RHANYHYN MUFFINS! Most that I go to arnt filled with all that repetitive stuff and futhermore, even if they were, its short sighted and insensitive and I dont think its "ok". So despite the fact that that is how all the kids are doing it these days, or so you say, I submit it should stop.
Maybe there should be a poll...cept i dont know if i could trust the nerds not to load the poll...acch, what does it matter, Im 40 years old and NO ONE ever listens to those people who are negatively impacted by others behavior, especially if the others are "just having fun".

I strongly predict that ths will be argued with only on its merits, meanwhile the people who are miserable will continue to suffer and those "just having fun" with their sigs and symbols will doubtfully ever appreciate the MEANING of the argument, ie that others are unhappy with what amounts to a wee bit of fun on yer part. Oh well, bye Kevins Watch, great site cept for the very interesting but clogged with trash forums

PSS...and someone just said here that if your sig is so important to have each and every time you post, then TYPE it in EACH and EVERY time.

Yes Im pissy about this, I feel like you dismissed my point of view, Avatar, without really adressing the points I raised. Its not about what I like or you like, its about functional use of a site, people are having problems with the sigs, your reply that you like them is irrelevent to my point, as is my personal feelings about them...its about functional use

Stop it, Sarge, those kind of accusations are insulting and dismissive.

The fact that these sigs are a built-in feature of phpBB, UBB, vB, iB, InvisionBoard, ezBoard (ezboard are one of the worst - they don't put a dividing line between post and sig), etc, etc, etc, suggests that very few people have a problem with them. I'm sorry that you have difficulties, but the fact is that people are simply not going to stop using them any time soon.
As for your particular issues with the sigs, I have contacted admins about the possibilities available, but to implement any kind of thing would mean time taken out of Vain's schedule (who is still working to recover from the hack last week), and there would need to be enough reason to give those changes precedence over others (such as the upgrading of the phpBB system, which Vain is currently working on). In other words, we're not ignoring your complaint,s but it is not so easy to deal with them that something can be done straight away.

Good idea.

There's one word for someone who joins a message board and almost immediately tries to start an argument about some trivial aspect. No, it doesn't start with Z, but it is one a lot of us nerds are familiar with.

I find it downright inconvenient and insulting that it rains so often here. I don't appreciate becoming wet as a result of something that is forced upon me without my consent, and the argument that rain occurs in most parts of the world and is accepted or at least tolerated by the majority doesn't mean I should have to put up with it. I demand that someone puts a stop to rain at once.

Though I acknowledge your complaint, Giant Friend, signatures are almost ubiquitous on message boards. The fact that you alone have a problem with them will not cause the structure of the (online) world to be changed to accomodate you.

Havent I seen this Red Meat cartoon of a talking Eastern Island Statue before....hmmm...oh yeah it was here... thats right! I must have seen it 100's of times here....how could I have forgotten? (PS Red Meat is a complete ripoff of Zippy the Pinhead; without the artistic ability that is, or the charm)

How appropriate for you to choose a "sig" of an easter island statue...built by a people who were so short sighted, and ignorant, and had their collective heads so far up their collective zsses (and its no surprise to me you are familiar with this word) that they considered other needs as trivia*...ie dear fellow they stripped their island to death, its and their own(sound familiar to anyone?)...now be a good boy and do as your avatar has done.
*You see, people with dyslexia, and the like ...(did you read that far?)...dont consider it trivial, at all, at all. So gosh gee whiz, while some people like you who are just tryin to get along are getting bothered by all these zssholes in life with their "trivial" problems, some of us have our own.

Hey here's a plan! I'll make the biggest sig of all! Pages and pages long, which will appear each post...gosh! and mine will be the biggest!! I mean, by your creed, ANYTHING goes then...right? ';)'

Dont worry, Id never be so thoughtless

As for the clown's comment, well, I considered the source....creeepy! (oh Im sorry, you dont like my feelings about that? well you did ask for it, and the pics, by any estimation are hardly fun....they are creepy...John Wayne Gacey was a creepy looking clown too....do you, like he, Rave?)
Here's some skest for ya 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O .

Covenant Jr? do you really liken things that actually could change to things that absolutely cannot? I think it well within the realm of possibility,as evidenced by this site's use of at least a line between posts and sigs...it means someone else cared about it too...and as I say, if you look, you will see that others here even, have problems with it. I know you were bitching about my bitching (which I always think is funny when someone does that), but I was responding to what I thought were glib, shallow, thoughtless, self centered answers to mine and others' complaint. At first, my post about this subject were informational and under request. Not till I got the responses of the spoiled brat " Well I like it so there" types that I had to grow invective and spew vitriol.

As to Murrin, thanx for the thoughtful and thorough reply... I guess I should appreciate the line you have :? Maybe a request to keep sigs simple or one line...
I know this is beginning to look like a showdown, but I accept conditions as is, and ive had my say on my fellows' generous responses....I can assure you they will want, and will have the last word on the subject.
PS What about the ads in the sigs, if they are allowed and arnt gonna go then I want in and want my cut too! Wee! One of the Seven Earthen Hells of A-Jeroth! Ads!

Perfect! (rubs hands together) Lets see who can make the biggest one!

actually I rather like the art, its all therepitetivebabble thats the problem...by the way does a sig pic's size have an inverse relationship to a certain portion of anatomy's size? Like those monster trucks? ;)

Well who cares about others anyway syl, if they cant use the site because of the repetitive stuff clogging up a download...well, you know what we say to those people, right syl?

We tell them they are argumentative over trivial details and then refer to them as zssholes...right...thought so...uhhh huh

I guess it could be true that some people just come looking for an argument, but I original started this whole mess with a simple post about it. Seems some people lie in wait for an argument, perhaps.
