Sleep habits

Post by Sunbaneglasses »

I am one of those people who feels they have to get 8 hours,7 at the least. My father in law goes to bed at midnight or 1 a.m. every night and gets up at 5 a.m.!This is just unreasonable 8O and has amazed me since I married into the family. How many hours do think you need? And how many do you actually get?

I always try to get about eight hours, but I'm not really sure what the optimum time is for me. It takes me a long time to get to sleep at night - at the very best I'll lie awake for half an hour first. If I have either too much or too little sleep it sometimes gives me a headache, though I've never worked out quite where the lines for 'too much' or 'too little' are.
On top of that, if I stay up I never feel tired until about two or three in the morning at least. I seem to be at my most awake around 11pm, and I couldn't say how much stuff I've gotten done at one in the morning because I was feeling restless.

I go jogging around 6:30-7:00 PM. I always get to bed early (usually around 8:00 PM). I read a ton in bed; usually fall asleep between 9:00-10:30 PM, get up around 7:30-8:00 AM. I always feel terrible/like I've wasted most of the day if I sleep past 10:00 or 11:00. Never have trouble sleeping, as I'm pretty tired from all the jogging and reading.

On work nights I generally go to bed around 10 PM and get up somewhere between 3 and 4 AM. A bit more sleep would be 'ideal', but I am pretty much incapable of falling asleep before 10. If I'm on the late shift, I go to bed at 3 AM and get up around 9 AM.

I don't consider myself a morning person. I have three alarm clocks, and I hate them all.

In short, I can adapt quickly to just about any schedule, but would prefer about 6 hours.

I do best after 7 or 8 hours.
Several consecutive days of just 5 or 6 makes me tired and look like crap.
With no alarm for work or kids jumping on my head I sleep about 10 hours.
Naps of any kind give me headaches though.

My wife and I trade weekend days.
I get up and keep the kids away from her on Sat morning and she returns the favor on Sunday morning.

Unlike her I wake up almost instantly refreshed and ready to go.
She crawls downstairs like a zombie for about a 1/2 hour.

I sleep as much as possible which is most certainly a waste of time, but if I weren't sleeping, I'd be playing the "add a Q game" in Mallory's so...

I get 8ish hours of sleep (or try to).

I wish I were a morning person... I always wake up muttering incoherent obsceneties at whatever or whoever woke me up.

On weekends I go to bed whenever I get sick of MSN and sleep until I get hungry... heh.

I'm lucky that I fall asleep and stay asleep easily... sometimes my alarm just gets incorporated into my dream and doesn't wake me up for a while.

Nothing beats my friend's boyfriend though. They had a fight and he wouldn't answer his phone... she thought he was way ticked but it turned out that he had been asleep and slept for a solid 24 hours. I didn't think that was possible...

Normally go to bed around midnight and up by 5:00 a.m. on workdays.
There are times, like weekends, when I get about 3 hours of sleep
and take an hour or two nap during the late afternoon.
(To re-energize for the night-time, since I'm more active after the sun goes down.)

There has been times when I've slept for like 12-16 hours too, but that is rare.

Generally go to bed anywhere between 12.30am - 2am, and am woken anytime between 5.30am and 7.30am by the kids.

I'm permanently tired, but feel as though I'm missing out if I go to bed earlier.

I am one of those people who does best if I have 8 hours of sleep at night, but I can function okay on 6 or 7. I even do okay on 5 hours sleep, but not if I do it for several days in a row.

My sleep habits are really screwed up right now cause I work 7pm till 7:30am one to three days a week (usually two days a week). I need to get a reasonable amount of sleep during the day of the evening I am going in, and usually sleep a minimum of 4 hours after a work night, if I am not going in again the following night. Sometimes you just need to be awake during the day to get things done. ;)

I try to get about 8 hours...I rarely do though, as I usually work second shift and the kids' bus comes before 7AM. They do make a lot of noise some mornings, and then my husband's cell phone will start up a bit later. :( And then the dog needs to go out to pee...etc. etc. etc.

One thing about working second shift that day shifters do not understand is that you cannot just come home in the middle of the night and go right to bed. You do have to have an hour or so to unwind from work. It would be like someone who works 8AM to 4PM coming home and going to bed at 5PM in the afternoon every day. It just doesn't work...

When I get tired enough, my body just sort of crashes and burns on a random weekend day, and I will sleep about 16 hours and will feel like a human being again upon waking up. And that will usually hold me for at least a couple of weeks. :)

I must be lucky - we have this wonderful thing called "flexitime" where I work - so I err on the side that means I get in later (closer to 9.30am) So usually sleep til nearly 8am on workdays. But I usually can't get to sleep until midnight so the 8-hour thing works pretty good.

I LOVE my weekend sleep-ins tho (but not when they are 'enforced' by thumping hangovers!)

On weekdays, its usually about 9 hours. On Friday and Saturday nights, I tend to get about 7 hours sleep. Sleeping in the day time gives me severe headaches.

So it usually works out rather well. :D

I usually get around 6 hours, I try to be in bed by 10ish during the week, 'cause I get up at about 04h15 or so. Like Murrin though, it takes me a long time to get to sleep usually.

I used to suffer from insomnia though, used to consider 3 or 4 hours a really good nights sleep, so 6 hours is fine. I sometimes sleep late on weekends, but then, I go to bed later too, so it's a pretty even trade-off usually.
