9/11 Conspiracies
Funny, I thought there was already a topic for this. Anyway, came across this clip this morning. I'm generally not one for conspiracies, but I'll say this clip is compelling, at least. Got me to watch all 80 minutes of it.

Hmm, played straight out of Firefox for me. *shrug*
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I've seen a couple of these things. They're interesting, but I don't give them a lot of salt.

I prefer them with onions and garlic......
I suspend disbelief, myself, which just means I believe there are A) people capable of thinking of this stuff, B)people capable of orchestrating this stuff, and C)people who have the power and capability to execute this stuff...
...and the current administration is certainly capable of something like this, Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney? They'd kill their grandma to "rule the world", they maybe just found a way to do it in the name of "freedom", which sickens me more at the thought of it.....

Aah, thanks Esmer. Yeah, surely this isn't new, is it? I posited something like it myself in fact, somewhere in the 'Tank.
Like you, I think I'll ssuspend my disbelief. It requires a far more merciless and power-hungry administration than I like to think of America as having, but I certainly agree that it is possible. And nor would the cynic in me be surprised.

While it's certainly possible, it falls apart when it comes to secrecy. Someone would have blabbed about it.

Sure. And that's the problem I have with most conspiracy theories. The idea that that many people can keep a secret to themselves and not use it for personal gain seems more fantastical than the actual conspiracy theory.

Conspiracy theories are for frustrated writers; no logic behind them, and are only propped up by some ridiculous ability to connect disparate facts. Funny how Occam's Razor goes out the window, but people are more willing to accept some convoluted story than the most logical or reasonable explanation (9/11 a case in point). And the whole conspiracy market is a haven for fraud artists (such as the case with the 'fake moon landing' nonsense or the 'holocaust never happening' theory).

Dude, Occam's Razor was a total conspiracy.

I pretty much agree LM, although, their very unlikelihood means thatthere is that much less chance of people picking a real one out of all the dross.Loremaster wrote:Conspiracy theories are for frustrated writers; no logic behind them, and are only propped up by some ridiculous ability to connect disparate facts. The simple fact that most conspiracy theories are crazy whacked-out ideas with little of no connection to reality could provide a near perfect cover for a real one. Because everybody knows conspiracy theorists are nuts...
