The X-men movies are perhaps my favorite superhero flicks, along with Raimi's Spider-Man. I heard X3 won't have the director of the first two. Perhaps it's for the best, but I'll definitely miss Bryan Singer. I trust he'll do Superman justice. I just hope it doesn't follow the 79 film too closely; I know the original score and Marlon Brando's voice will be incorporated.

As for Pirates: perhaps it was Depp's performance or the joyous roller-coaster atmosphere that took it beyond the usually paper-thin genre it is associated with. In any case, I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Apocalypse was damned good, but I think Mr Sinister may have been better. Apocalypse was the hammer to Sinsister's dagger in the back...

Saw a trailer for V For Vendetta last night and it looks fabulous! Looks like they got the Guy Fawkes mask/costume exactly right.

One factor that could work against the success of the film: Sin City has so dramatically redefined the way one adapts a graphic novel to film, that now any adaptation that smacks of mere "conventional" film techniques may seem behind the times.

We'll see. As long as V For Vendetta the movie captures the essence of Alan Moore's story, a "conventional" looking movie is fine with me. It opens March 17.

Yes both V and Night Watch look cool. 8) The trailer to V looks awesome!
I don't know if anyone is familiar with Millman's great The Way of the Peaceful Warrior books but rumor has it that Peaceful Warrior will come out this August...and you won't believe who's slated to play Socartes..........you won't believe it............Nick Nolte 8O 8O 8O

NBC was showing an extended trailer for V For Vendetta during its commercial breaks from the Olympics. I'm guessing this is the full theatrical trailer. Anyway, I'm REALLY pumped for the film now. I haven't been so excited over a movie since, well, Revenge of the Sith.

It's inspired casting to have John Hurt play the Big Brother-type gov't leader, since he had played the victimized Winston Smith (opposite Richard Burton's Big Brother figure) in the film adaptation of Orwell's 1984.

That's where I've seen that guy before.

Is V basically going to be 1984 only if Winston wore a mask, blew things up, and didn't lose to big brother?

LOL!

It's no coincidence that I admire both V For Vendetta and 1984. Alan Moore's opus was clearly influenced/inspired by Orwell's novel, but I feel that Moore takes the similar premise and makes it his own (along with David Lloyd's great art, of course).

What Big Brother type novel in the last half century hasn't been influenced by 1984? Let's face it, Orwell was the king (or at least the progenitor).

Good point; the same thought struck me while viewing the trailer. My head registered "Purely live action?!" as if it were a negative.

Unfortunately, I think Sin City pretty much has a monopoly on the "make-it-look exactly-like-the-pages-of-the-comic" technique. Their stylistic choice was surely innovative and distinctive--which is perhaps the reason other filmmakers are reluctant to try it. It'd be like a martial arts film using bullet time; they'd just be accused of ripping off the Matrix.

Saw the trailer for Pirates 2. So far, it promises to be a poor imitation of the orignal. I do not like the design of the new supernatural ship and crew... one can only hope the plot makes up for it, but it's not looking too good. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised rather than right about this one.

I just watched 'V' is for Vendetta last night. Pretty good film, though I think I'll have to watch it again to interpret more of the symbolism.

Natalie does a great job - but the chemo look just makes me sad.

When Evie gets a first look at where 'V' lives, it reminded me a lot of the Hall of Gifts in The Wounded Land.

I read that the original graphic novel author (name escapes me) disliked the final product, and had his name removed from the credits - but has done this for several other works too (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is one that comes to mind).

I will, but only because it was a book written with the specific intent of being a movie. As a book, it's pop fiction at best. As a movie, it should be very entertaining.

hated the book because i thought it was written badly but the subject matter is very interesting so i'll probably go see it.
It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

OotP isn't until 2007
