IT's too bad that you can't click out of a forum into the sub-forum antmore.
\For example if you were in Vespers, you used to be able to go back into the Waymeet...now you can only get back into the main index.
And it take WAY too long to have to scroll all the way back down again to get into the movie forum.
(WAY too long!!)

The Hegemony sounds good. Very good.
I miss the subforums, but I'd still rather not get the server error messages.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

If you use the 'back' button rather than clicking links, it remembers where you had scrolled to.drew wrote:IT's too bad that you can't click out of a forum into the sub-forum antmore.

Referring to the subforums again, I'd like to see the site back the way it way before, but the problem is, the mod that was used for subforums here doesn't seem to exist any more. phpBB altered their coding standards, and this particular mod was one that didn't meet the new guidelines, and noone went to the effort to recreate it for more recent versions. Other subforums mods exist, but none of them actually do the same thing that old one did.

The page isn't loading for me, so unfortunately, I don't know what they look like.
I do miss the sub-forums too. In fact, I just mentioned it in the FR thread here.
Tazz, any topics along the lines of what you want a new forum for are appropriate in the 'Tank too. Plenty of folks interested in history that post there.
And as I've always made a point of saying, if anybody wants a whole topic for a news story or current event, then make one.
It'll either get interest or not. In fact, I'll unsticky those news threads, for now at least. Do you think it'll make a difference?

Sorry, my website went down again. I'll rehost the image:

As you can see, instead of pages that act like seperate index pages, it's donw as 'parent' and 'child' forums - an actual forum with subforums inside it. The page for that forum would have a list of forums at the top of it, then below would have the usual content of a forum. And they always display subforums in that way on the index - a line of small links underneath the forum description.
Hmm... Perhaps a better example is the vB subforums, here's a site I go to that uses those: www.sffworld.com/forums/

Ah, I see what you mean. Don't really like that way of doing it...forums might tend to get lost in the regular threads. Although...I suppose you could create a "Hegemony" forum, with the list of forums in it, then lock it so nobody could post in the "Hegemony" forum itself.
Then it would act kinda like an index for sub-forums...I think.

Yikes. I wish I had never seen this thread....well, at least I didn't see it until today, and things seem to have settled down. Unfortunately, I see my name dropped around this forum, and I really don't like some of the things said about me, so I'm gonna retort here for a minute.
Funny, I don't remember saying anything like this on any public forum, ever. Care to run and find the Quote, Revan? I bet you didn't find it here anywhere. I bet that IF I said it, it was in a private conversation. "IF" being the operative word. Frankly, I don't see Null as a guy who needs to be settled; not like, say, some moron who doesn't know the difference between 'private' and 'public'; someone who keeps a confidence about as good as a screen door keeps out a hurricane. Note to the Watch: Never, and I mean never, answer Revan's "chat" summons, unless you want everything you say to be repeated in a public place, and quite possible repeated exactly how you didn't say it. And Null, make sure you take Revan's word with a HUGE grain of salt.Darth Revan wrote:And something dAN said springs to my mind - modship might settle you down - as it did several other members, and me.
If this is indeed the truth, then it argues for deleting certain forums, not adding forums. I'm against adding any of the forums Jay talked about, although I find a 'Comedians' forum interesting; I don't think we have that covered here. Comics....well, I don't see the need. Rev speaks like the majority is demanding it, but I think this 'majority' is really about 10-15 people, out of what, 1000 watchers? Hardly a majority. And frankly, there are comics sites out there that cover the topic much more thoroughly than we would. Current Affairs....God, I get enough of that in Real Life....hell, add Weather, and bunch it with Sports, and I'll have a review of the Six O'clock news. KW is my break from reality, for crying out loud! Do what you want; I'll just ignore it like I do the Tank.Darth Revan wrote:Does with the Library - a lot of the Waymeet, and even some of the Collective. I'm okay with that. If Turya likes, I'll even sticky a thread or 2.kevinswatch wrote:Would anyone have any problems if I delete the Anne McCaffrey Forum, and move the topics to General Sci-fi/Fantasy?

Yes, you said it to me in chat once-- or somesuch, I can't remember exactly what you said. In fact I might have got it wrong. And I'm sorry for expressing that view point. I thought at the time that it wasn't actually something personal to you; and therefore wouldn't mind an opinion such as that being expressed. But thanks for telling me, like I've said, I perfer problems with me being told straight, therefore I can improve on them-- I won't post any opinions on you without your express position... how's that?dANdeLION wrote:Yikes. And I think you're attacking me when you state "want everything you say to be repeated in a public place". I've chatted to what amounts to tens of thousands of times on this forum-- I've slipped up a couple of times--and apologised; Let it go dude.
Whatever floats your boat.dANdeLION wrote: KW is my break from reality, for crying out loud! Do what you want; I'll just ignore it like I do the Tank.

Maybe you can combine forums. Tolkein with Rowling...

I'd like to. Just want to point out that you hurt Null a bit by saying things that you may have misunderstood, or didn't remember clearly. Also, by naming Null in the first place, you single him out, which isn't fair, because I know a lot of people upset me from time to time, and I cannot think of a time when Null was that person. Just try to act in the Watch like you should act in a real life community; don't stir up trouble between neighbors.Darth Revan wrote:I've chatted to what amounts to tens of thousands of times on this forum-- I've slipped up a couple of times--and apologised; Let it go dude.
Ouch....no wonder you're a sith!Darth Revan wrote:Maybe you can combine forums. Tolkein with Rowling...Martin forum with the Jordan forum... although I think that may be tainting Martin's fine works.

How does removing the McAffrey forum limit people's choices? It's not as if they can't talk about her in general sci-fi/fantasy.Avatar wrote:Why limit people's choices? Sure, there may not be much activity right now, but at least the option is there if anybody wants to talk about them.

Anyway, we're a SRD forum, not a general sci-fi forum. Other authors here are just that - other authors.

The very fact that we make space for people to discuss other authors at all means that we're not limited to SRD. As I've said before, if we were, I wouldn't be here. Hell, I don't think that I've posted in the SRD forums for weeks.
Although it will obviously be possible for people to talk about her in gen sci-fi, I like the diversity that having dedicated forums permits. People who visit can say, "Wow, look, not only can I talk about SRD here, but about all these other authors as well.
It may not limit the choices in practice, but in application it might.
Anyway, I don't really care to be honest, I'm just opposed to taking things away, that's all.
