Been a good couple of weeks on the book acquisition side for poor me. :D

Finally got my own copies of DT VI & VII, Jordans WoT 11, and Pratchetts Men At Arms to add to my collections.

I'm definately not happy with myself now. I keep spending money on books when I should really be saving it for when the rent goes up in July.

Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Haruki Murakami
Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro
The Trial, Franz Kafka

The Elder Gods: Book One of the Dreamers (David&Leigh Eddings)

My wife got it for $5 out of a bargain bin in Wal-Mart...Hardcover too!
Brian: Who cured you?
Ex-Leper: Jesus did, sir. I was hopping along, minding my own business, all of a sudden, up he comes, cures me! One minute I'm a leper with a trade, next minute my livelihood's gone. Not so much as a by-your-leave! "You're cured, mate." Bloody do-gooder.
Brian: Well, why don't you go and tell him you want to be a leper again?
Ex-Leper: Uh, I could do that sir, yeah. Yeah, I could do that I suppose. What I was thinking was I was going to ask him if he could make me a bit lame in one leg during the middle of the week. You know, something beggable, but not leprosy, which is a pain in the @$$ to be blunt and excuse my French, sir.

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
That's one of my best fantasy reads from the past year. :) Alternate history of Britain in the time of the Napoleanic Wars; written in the style of the time period (ie Jane Austen). 8)

Oh, great. I like Jane Austen. I'm not that much into history per se, but if I can relate to what's going on that's fine, too, I guess. :)

Duchess: As a fan of Strange and Norrell, you might like to hear about Clarke's short story collection out later this year, The Ladies of Grace Adieu. It includes stories in the same setting as Strange & Norrell, and even an appearance by Strange himself. I believe it is due for release around October.

The last thing I needed was another book, but today I picked up a novella collection called Dates from Hell...where people are saddled with dates from...Hell. Their dates turn out to be demons, werewolves, and other undead emotional f-wits.   I couldn't resist either the title or the premise. 8)

Nice. Three of my favourite of his short stories in there, The Mist, The Raft and the one about the college sniper IIRC.

Skeleton Crew is my favorite of the King story collections.

The Mist is my all-time favorite novella.

Survivor Type is the most horrifying short story I've ever read.

Survivor Type is just sick. It's one of King's stories that I've only read once and don't need to read again (like The Boogeyman, which still scares the willies out of me when I think about it). I can't remember which book it's in, but Beachworld is another great one.

I found a copy of The Thousandfold Thought in Waterstone's. I had been sure it wasn't out here yet, but a check of Amazon tells me it's been out more than a week.
