I've always been a bit surprised at how original the 40K Universe is, especially seeing as how heavily GW borrowed from Tolkein for the Warhammer lore.
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

The Tyranids are damn original, and are a great idea. However, the Tau, in my opinion, are based off Imperial Japan in WWII.

I should put screenshots up of my painted models.

Yeah, it isn't all original. The Eldar's ancient history has a lot in common with Greek mythology, although their more 'recent' history is some good stuff. I always liked the Horus Heresy stuff too, although I've never fully understood how the Emperor became an almighty psychic being.

As I understand, and you can take it from two perspectives, is that first, the whole god emperor thing is simply religious propaganda (and that the emperor is purely powerful because he's being fed the souls of a thousand psykers each day), or second, the story about him being some ancient god from prehistory (related to Necron mythology).

The other background story relating to the Necron is fantastic. Though the Necron are very Terminator-ish (meaning the movies), the Star God story and war with the Slaan is great.

Ah, I'd forgotten about all those psykers. Excellent painting too, especially the Tyranids. A lot of people seem to copy the schemes they print in White Dwarf, which is a shame. I made up my own Craftworld for my Eldar army, which had a kind of black cherry armour colour that I could never mix the same way twice! I also had a big group of Harlequins and a squad of pirates put together from some really old models I found on a market stall, so the army overall had quite a less homogenous appearance than most.

Beat Planescape: Torment a couple days ago. Best story I've ever encountered in a video game. The plot, the setting, the characterizations--both very original and insanely deep. I think I got away with 95% of the game's combat through dialogue options. I see myself playing the game several times, because one playthrough only scratches the surface.

Right now I'm alternating between Civilization IV and Elder Scrolls IV, the gobstoppers of turn-based strategy and RPGs, respectively.

Been playing Imperial Glory myself recently. Not bad, but it just looks like a rip-off of the Total War series, with none of the improvements of Rome, and a different era.

Still fun to win Waterloo for the French though, but it's just a little too derivative.

What? Probably the best strategy game ever. If you like the genre, you can't go wrong with it. :D

What is wrong with you people? I mean, each to his own, but since I started playing the Total War series, no other RTS-type game has been able to hold my interest much at all.

I've still not gotten round to buying factions yet.

R:TW is excellent though.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
