Top sf and fantasy heroines according to RevolutionSF site

Post by taraswizard »

About two yrs. ago Revolution SF www.revolutionsf.com started their survey of the 75 greatest SF, fantasy and horror heroines of all time and Friday May 12 they completed their survey with a top 10.

10) Lady Jessica from Dune
9) Emma Peel from Avengers
8) Trinity from Matrix series
7) Xena, Warrior Princess
6) Princess Leia
5) Sarah Connor from Terminator series
4) Wonder Woman
3) Dana Scully
2) Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
1) EllenRipley from Alien series

The websites rankings and commentaries for the top ten selction are at www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=3163&page=4 The commentary and ranking for the other 65 selectees are at www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2223 and www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2274 and www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2364 and www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2528

In their commentary on the top ten selection, the web site comments that Wonder Woman was the only superhero to possess superpowers comparable to those of Superman's; regarding Ellen Ripley, they nearly solely attribute her inclusion and possession of the premier position to Aliens. Also, their discussion distinguishes Emma Peel to be distinctly and markedly difference from Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) or other holders of the sidekick position on the Avengers. Lastly, their comments characterize the relationships of the three Star Wars principles (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia) as that of equals (of course, that analysis would be limited to the 1978 - 1984 triology).

Previous selections on the list have included:
20) Marion Ravenswood - Raiders of the Lost Ark
19)Jean Grey - Xmen
18) Eowyn - Lord of the Ring (prose version)
17) Jamie Summers - Bionic Woman
31) Willow Rosenberg
27)Kira Nerys - Deep Space 9
24) Deleen - Babylon 5
53) Sydney Bristow
51) Sarah Pezini - Withchblade
47) Fred - Angel
45) Dr. Ellie Arroway - Contact
42) Jadzia Dax - Deep Space 9
42) Taarna the Tarakina - Heavy Metal (movie)
55) Susan Calvin - Asimov's Robot series
74) Dr Hlena Russell - Space:1999
71) Tank Girl
64) Sailor Moon
62) Death - Sandman series
61) Rogue - Xmen
The listing about is my sampling has 19 characters so I hoping one can see that the total 75 are chosen very well. Following the links one can read the entire list and the site's commentary regarding each selection and they are usually interesting and entertaining.

In all seriousness though, I would have ranked Death and Susan Calvin higher.

What about Lyra from 'His Dark Materials'? I think a girl who helps overthrow God deserves a mention!
