Someone to play Bannor and the Blooguard

Post by swanthewarrior »

I was wondering more about who should play Bannor, and then Cail and the other Haruchai/Bloodguard. Please don't flame me too much but in my opinion I think Brad Pitt may be a good Bannor. Maybe Ewan Mcgregor (sp?) as Cail. Please don't flame its just my opinion. And don't forget I love the books to, I wouldn't want a crappy actor to play my favorite character, in Bannor.

It seems like the Bloodguard ought to be ethnically distinct from anyone else in the movie... SRD has described them (in his imagination) as inspired by South Asians.

I had some similar thoughts exnihilo - the Haruchai are a separate race so having them played by white men of european descent like everyone else wouldn't really convey that very well. Plus they are described as having brown skin, so I don't think Brad or Ewan would quite fit. :D

Good topic though swan. :D

You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

yeah...i always did see them as south east asian looking. i guess it was how i translated donaldson's description. of course...chow yun fat could play any of the haruchai. there's just a bevy of excellent chinese and japanese actors to do them too. and i have always...ever since seeing Hero and The Story of Qiu Ju (i love Gong Li) thought that Zhang Yimou would be a great fantasy flick director...or even Ang Lee (tho i prefer Zhang)

not a flame topic at all swanthewarrior. good topic!

I was thinking Zhi Zhang as well for a Haruchai, but then I remembered that they are all men. :?

So misogynistic. :D

I still like to visualize the Haruchai as black/African.
Brown skin, curly short cropped hair sounds African to me.
And it so different, I think that's what made it so interesting to me.
Making them Asian would be so.....boring and stereotyped.

I could also see someone of South pacific descent in the role. Someone like Lawrence Makoare (Lurtz).

Wayfriend, do you think the Haruchai would have Maori-style body (and facial) tattoos?

Carlos Spencer. got Maori blood in him, about the right build and looks IMO. There are even rumours he doesn't sleep!

He seems a little too chunky for the role.
The Haruchai are many things but I don't think any of them were fat.
They were lean mean fighting machines!!

Agreed, the Haruchia are African to me.

Hi Swan. Welcome to the Watch. As for the verbal crossfire, just stand back, watch and enjoy. That's what I usually do!

Don't forget the Haruchai are short. Short and wide-ish, like Stonedowners.

:LOLS: WayFriend.

Short maybe, but I can't say I've ever seen them as being wide, (even -ish). Like HLT, I think of them as leaner. Even the guy Tazz posted a pic of looks too "solid."

Still, never thought of them as African either. The Maori idea isn't a bad one though. The broad cheekbones are there certainly.

I dont have my copy of Gilden-fire any more but my recollection is that the artwork shows the Haruchai have builds like gymnasts or martial artists. I dont know if this was a part of SRD's vision but that's how i always saw them aswell.
