Each country in the World Showcase has some sort of movie, show, ride, or something to show you about them. I've never been at all interested in American history. It's not old enough, and the little I knew seemed a bit too familiar. Yet, somehow, this is my favorite show of all the countries there. I see it every time I'm in Disney. (Then I saw The Crossing on tv, finally learning why Washington crossed the Delaware, and now I appreciate our history a lot more.)

No one thought my gay joke was funny. It's a sad world when you can't get a laugh with gay jokes. I mean, they have sex with men, in case you didn't know. I think that's funny, considering the sexy, beautiful evolution-shaped alternative we have with women.
Anyway, I wanted to list Plato, but couldn't come up with a valid category, since I'd rather choose others for "historic" or "philosophical." When I couldn't think of another category, I just settled upon "gay." No offense intended. (not that anyone here noticed it enough to take offense
)

Actually most learned men at Plato's time were more or less gay. Sex between men was intellectually stimmulating and fun (and completely socially acceptable), while sex between men and women was considered a necessary chore, purely done for procreational purposes.
So yes, Plato WAS gay.

Political - Pierre Trudeau, because he was such an intellectually complicated character. As the only PM to have invoked martial law in response to terrorist acts in our country (back in 1970), I would be very curious to know how he would view this post-9/11 world we live in. (He passed away in 2000)
Music - Kate Bush, because she's so cooly enigmatic that it would be nice to get to know the woman behind the artist.
Sports - Martina Navratilova, because she's an extraordinary athlete who is still going strong, and someone who isn't afraid to speak her mind.
Film/TV - Film: Stanley Kubrick, because he was such an enigma, like Kate Bush is. Kubrick liked to pick the brains of his actors and fellow filmmakers, so it would be nice to switch tables on him. TV: Criss Angel, amazing illusionist and all-around cool guy. Any time spent with him is bound to be more than interesting, especially if he wants to practice a trick right there in front of you.
Historical - Socrates, because Fist and others have already picked Jesus.
I would want to ask Socrates: what do you really think of your disciple Plato appropriating your words to fit into his own Utopian, authoritarian manifesto? Is the democratic way doomed to failure?
Writer - I might have picked SRD by default, but if the intention is to pick his brains, then what could I ask him that hasn't already been asked in the Gradual Interview/Elohimfest session? (Uh, what's your favorite breakfast cereal?) So instead, I'm picking Frank Herbert, because I want to ask him if he really thinks that human civilization, as presented in Dune, can only exist stably under a feudal, authoritarian system. Again, is the democratic way doomed to failure?

I think his statement is based upon an uneducated, incompetent, and indifferent society. If we choose to invest the best of our resources into all of our people, democracy is clearly the best choice.
Given our "survival of the fittest" social structure, his statements can be easily be defended and supported, but it all entails a complete indifference to the people being ruled, eh?
