Larry Underwood? And A Poll: Favorite "Stand" Ch
Does anyone else really like or identify with Larry Underwood of the Stand? I thought of all the protagonsits in hte Stand, he and perhaps Nick Andros were the most "Gunslinger"-esque in their psyches and growth.
Forgive me if this poll has already be conducted, but:

Bumped for Luci.
As I've said, I really liked Stu. As written, he was the reluctant hero, and his actions/reactions remind me of how I'd act/react in the same situations. Now that could be that I first read the book 27 years ago and I've patterned my life after him, but.....
This re-read, I'm coming to appreciate Larry a lot more. His character development is a nice arc, and it may well be that by the time I'm done, my answer will change.

you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

Eddie annoyed the living piss out of me up until W&G. I guess there are some parallels there though.

I seem to have voted in this poll, but I'm damned if I can remember who for.
Cail, Eddie was supposed to piss you off up to Bk 4. He pissed Roland off. In fact, Roland had to stop himself from killing him. Until he grew up anyway.
Anyway, if I didn't vote for Flagg here, I think I would now. I've always liked him, both in this, EotD and DT.

Always thought his death in DT7 was too easy and anticlimatic. After all those millenia traipsing around...to get nailed by a spider-kid? Weak.

AGREED. Verrrry disappointing indeed. I wanted a battle between he and our man R in the worst way. Ah well. There are other worlds than these.

The Judge is the character that (for me, anyway) moved King from pulp writer to author. The Judge was a throwaway secondary character, that King gave depth.

I don't think the movie was crap. I think the movie was about as good as it could've reasonably been expected to be. The Stand is a sprawling book that just doesn't lend itself to film. A miniseries was the right medium, but in the days before cable miniseries', it was limited by the allowed content.
No, it didn't jibe with the mental movie I'd created over the prior 15 years, but it wasn't bad.

Well, not having watched it, I can't really say.
I stopped watching pretty much as soon as (a very badly cast) Flagg appeared.
But I'll certainly agree that the book, even the abridged one, just couldn't work well in a movie-type setting. Movies limit their stories too much.
And I'm usually to much of a purist when it comes to screen adaptations to be able to enjoy most any film of a book, with very few exceptions.
