Well said, Furls...I can't stand book-burners either...especially the ones who judge a book before they read it. I mean, I can kinda understand people who have read it and THEN decided that they don't want their kids to read it; at least they're actually making an INFORMED decision...but people who just jump to conclusions? It's rediculous.

Haha, anyway, it was kinda funny to watch them scramble for new ways of presenting the same points over and over again...
how about a link so we can go and admire the greatness of your devastating battle??

I'll go see if it's still around! The mods there have a tendancy of deleting extended battles (something about trying to maintain unity), but they did let this one go on for quite a while, so it may still be there...

Hmm...ten pages into the board, and I can't find it. I didn't think it was THAT long ago...I've PMed a mod asking whether they deleted it, but until then, I'll keep looking.

Deleting disagreements in the interests of maintaining unity? Sounds a bit like doublespeak to me. ;)

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

So what would he think of Covenant?
Not to sure on Pope Benedict, but here's a link to a christian-values based review of TCTC.

Personally I think it's pretty poorly written but it might interest you.
The eclectic vampire subculture - bigger in the US and splintering from the '70s Goth movement - borrows more from Anne Rice's broody, immortal and powerful figure of Lestat in the Vampire Chronicles than Bram Stoker's figure of old. The subculture, said Dr Hume, consists of vampire role players but also people who believe they are vampires, blood donors and occult-based and mystically oriented groups.
Heh. I've never read Ann Rice but I find this kinda interesting, maybe I'll have to pick up Vamp Lestat or Interview sometime.

EDIT-And be corrupted and turned to evil.

The vatican still has an official excorcist?

I like the Anne Rice books btw. Interview is very good, Lestat not bad. But I do think the get worse and worse on the whole, until they become just more of the same.

Agreed with AV on the Rice books: Pick up interview, but you could consider leaving Lestat alone.
