VIII was actually the last Final Fantasy game I enjoyed. The kiddyish feel of IX and X is like nails on a blackboard to me.Queeaqueg wrote:I thought the game was really good actually, though most think that it is rubbish.Final Fantasy VIII. Never did finish it.
I saw a G-Con 45 light gun for the playstation for a few pounds the other day and bought it on a whim. I always liked the look and feel of that gun, so I'm buying lightgun games from eBay at the moment, to get some use out of it.
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

I started playing IX and although it didn't particularly offend me, it didn't grab me like the previous two. Also, the (deliberate?) retro feel was a bit odd.Nav wrote:VIII was actually the last Final Fantasy game I enjoyed. I played X until I got stuck on a boss battle, and I was getting used to it. A large portion of the game, though, just leads you by the hand from one location to the next without really requiring you to do much. That annoyed the hell out of me.
Revisiting VIII in the light of the later games makes it much more palatable.

IX was my personal favorite of the PSX Final Fantasies--mainly because of the art style. Love the medieval/fantastical stuff more than the steampunk/modern slant. I also got kind of tuckered out from VII's constant barrage of random battles, as well as the inability to skip those elaborate summons. Still, small quibbles on a uniformly great series. Wish I had a PS2 about now, with FFXII looming on the horizon.
At the moment, I'm playing the Warlords expansion for Civ IV. It has trebuchets, so I'm happy. Definitely my favorite strategy game of all time now, heh. For other reasons than trebuchets, mind you.
Also playing Link's Awakening. Feels good to be lost in a Zelda game again. I actually died a couple times in the first dungeon! Definitely my favorite Game Boy game. Sometimes debate whether it’s better than A Link to the Past. More challenging, to be sure (but then again, I have played A Link to the Past so much that it’s a breeze).

Speaking of forthcoming FFs, I'm a little annoyed at the way they're handling the next few. At the minute, the only thing tempting about the PS3 is FFXIII, but FFXIII is the last exclusive FF game--so I either miss out on XIII entirely and pick up again at XIV on another console, or I buy an expensive games console just to play one game.Lord Foul wrote:Wish I had a PS2 about now, with FFXII looming on the horizon.

For real. I feel FFXIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 are the only think making the PS3 worthwhile right now.
I think MGS4 is far more complete than FFXIII; seems like they rushed a CGI movie out to wow the crowd. I reckon they're still in the brainstorming/idea phase on that game. Would be surprised if it came out in 2008.
Then again: Square used to be able to crank out an FF every year (gap of time between VIII and IX, for example). Still, development for next-gen system seems to be going toward the "it takes forever to make a ten hour game" trend.

Project Zero (Fatal Frame in the US), in which you kill ghosts by taking photos of them with your magic camera. Very scary, in a way only the japanese can manage.
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

Fatal Frame is brilliant - scarier than Silent Hill, IMO.
I'm playing Guilty Gear X2 # Reload, to tide me over 'til I get GG XX Slash.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
Endut!
