I, Robot is a bad, bad movie.
But I still watch it every time it comes on.

I love Highlander, but I don't think I'd call it a sci-fi movie. I don't know, perhaps it's more accurate to call it an Epic Historical film. *shrug* (And if anybody mentions Highlander II, I'll point out that it didn't actually happen.aTOMiC wrote:Highlander rocked. As for Enemy Mine, well, I haven't seen it for...probably nearly 20 years. But I loved it as a kid.

Great list dAN.
I can't believe I forgot about Serenity. OUTSTANDING.
Enemy Mine? Yeah I liked it in the theater but after having watched it far too many times it comes off like a 2 hour STNG episode dealing with a overblown moral lesson on bigotry and tolerance and as always humans are the worst creatures in the galaxy. I've become a bit tired of the notion that mankind's only contribution to existence is greed, war and death.
As to Highlander being anything but sci fi...hmmm.. If swordplay is the only deciding factor between fantasy and sci fi then Highlander joins Star Wars in the fantasy realm. That's just not how I view either film. My two bit opinion of course.
Now a really fantastic bunch of films that make a huge impact on my life are as follows:
Battle Beyond the Stars
Laserblast
Message From Space
Godzilla versus Megalon
Darkstar
Galaxy of Terror
Galaxina
The Last Star Fighter
and last but certainly not least............TRON!

I dunno...what exactly is it about Highlander that makes you think of it as sci-fi? I still see it as Epic Historical.aTOMiC wrote:

Amazon places most of the Highlander stuff under the genres of Action and Sci-Fi, Av. If you're still bent on arguing irrelevant stuff, go back to the Tank.

Classing Highlander as sci-fi doesnt make sense. What is it that says so? Just because Star Wars has magic and 'swords' is not enough reason to argue Highlander falls into the same genre; for there are many sci-fi elements in SW that allows it be placed as sci-fi. You might as well argue Conan is sci-fi.

Really? See, Conan was never said to be an alien from Planet Zeist, nor did he create a shied around the earth to replace a dysfuncional ozone layer in the future. And as for Av's contention that Highlander II never happened, well, neither did any of the other Highlanders, Star Wars, etc.....

No. Event Horizon pretty much blew. Seemed like such potential that went no where. Just a bloody mess.A Gunslinger wrote:Did I just read that someone liked Tron? To each their own, but lord....that was BAAADDD!
Did anyone like Event Horizon as much as I did?

uh...Highlander is not science fiction. its Epic Historical. it doesn't belong in a Sci-Fi category in any way shape or form. a guy that lives a kajillion years has nothing whatsoever to do with science.
those of you who think this is sci-fi, tell me why. what makes it sci-fi?
PS. one of my all time favorite sci-fi movies which i just remembered,
Back To the Future.

I'll rewatch. I am a sucker for old (cold war) sci-fi. I loved the invasion of the body snatchers. If that wasn't a commie vs usa metaphor, I'll eat my hat.Lord Foul wrote:Yeah, I used to like Event Horizon, but nowadays it just looks like a cheesy horror film to me.
