A few years ago, when I was working in drug development, I remember hearing how a compound had been discovered that enabled users to remain awake and alert for three days and three nights, without building up a sleep debt of any kind. Basically, they'g go to bed on the fourth night and wake up feeling absolutely fine the next day. Side effects were negligible, but the industry was acutely aware that a drug like this could effectively destroy life as we know it.
It's now being used in certain applications, mostly military, and there's evidence that it actually improves users' memory functions. I wonder if it will ever be made openly available? I think I'd end up taking it pretty regularly, my sleep habits are terrible.

Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

Interesting article... very interesting, especially so because my wife has just started writing a sci-fi story involving something very close.
The basic idea is that in the future, a drug and process are developed that would allow people to shift their need for REM (dream) sleep to other people, who end up experiencing their dreams for them.

Also, the book sounds good.

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

Looks like nobody knows yet what effects it'll really have. That said, I'd rather have soldiers take this than be hopped up on amphetamines.
Happy to bet that we'll figure out a way to abuse it pretty quick though.

Syl speaks the heh. I just wish I hadn't lost so many teeth......well, it was only two, but one was in the front, heh............actually, sleep deprivation becomes "part of the high" after about 4 days........but it does have a mean recoup, for me anyway.........very damaging to the body, the ligaments and such, not eating food causes the body to feed on itself (I heard)......7 days straight chainsmoking Camel wides, not eating, rarely drinking, very bad way to "trip out", I have learned, personally.....but it was wild shit, and the sex? I can't even talk about it here haha!
Kids, just say no!
