Well, I tried it!

Post by hierachy »

From the other thread:
I am going to attempt a double cork at gym tonight. I doubt any of you know what that is, nor do you really need to. All you need to know is that there is a fairly high possibility that I will die. Then again... maybe I will land it.

There will be a video either way.

Wow! That's just brilliant...even if you didn't land on your feet...I'd be lucky to launch my body into the air that high let alone trying to spin! Hope you land it soon!

James, what exactly do you call what you do? I mean, I'd call them "tricks" but is there a technical term for it (the "discipline" I mean)?

Haha... well you are spot on, Seareach.

They are called 'tricks', and the sport is called 'tricking'.

It has only been around for about ten years, and is generally considered to be a mix of martial arts and gymnastics.

Ah...so I was close when I said "tricks"!!! Wow! I sometimes even surprise myself.

Anyway...it's really COOL! I'll never be able to do it myself...so I'll just sit here and marvel!

Ouch.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

You're a true anarchist, James! Not only defying the Gods but the laws of gravity as well.

I'm too lazy to do spins like that; my family just skydives if we ever want to spit in the face of nature. Heh.

The worst way is without a parachute. Sorry, had to do it.

Actually, I've never skydived myself, but my grandfather was a jumpmaster for the HALO Committee. If I recall correctly, he told me you don't really feel the classic sensation of falling that you'd expect; all you get is an immense pressure. Most new people read their altimeters to tell what altitude they are, but people like my grandfather could tell when to open by just feeling the pressure change as they fell.
