i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

If you watched the masterpiece that was Beowulf starring Christopher Lambert you shouldn't have any problem viewing Beowulf and Grendel. I watched the former and when it was over I remembered the old line from Futurama..."You watched it, you can't un-watch it!" Though I certainly wished I could.
"I think and feel everything aTOMiC does only slower."
best beowulf movie is The 13th Warrior.
based on the michael crichton book, Eaters of the Dead, which, if you like Crichton, you might like. i don't so i didn't, but i LOVE the movie.

Eaters of the Dead: The Manuscript of Ibn Fadlan Relating His Experiences with the Northmen in A.D. 922 is a 1976 novel by Michael Crichton. Crichton explains in an appendix that the book was based on two sources. The first three chapters are a retelling of Ibn Fadlan's personal account of his actual story journey northwards and his experiences with and observations of the Rus', the early Russian people. The remainder is based upon the story of Beowulf.

Lucy, if it was another life, I would swear we are kin ... I totally agree, 13th Warrior is a wonderful movie. Great cast. And very solid directing.
ALthough I really do want to see Beowulf and Grendal as I love the cast and it got good feedback when it did the Festival circuit here in Toronto...

The 13th Warrior was a great movie! Well, except for the part with the impaling of the horses, but that's what the FFWD button's for...
I didn't know Christopher Lambert did a Beowulf movie. *shudder*
Haven't seen Beowulf and Grendel. Looks really good, though. And hey, are those Icelandic horses in the IMDB photos? I think they might be. One more reason to see it.
I gotta wonder how the 2007 Beowulf version's gonna stack up... Any bets?

when i die, you're all invited to my viking funeral, but you all have to stand on the beach (shooting arrows at my corpse in the boat) and say that thing they say in the movie:
"Lo there do I see my father.
Lo there do I see my mother.
Lo there do I see my brothers and my sisters.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.
Lo they do call to me;
they bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla,
where the brave may live forever."
(then you can break out the bongs and beers and led zeppelin)

Well, I watched B & G. let me preface my remarks by saying that i have never seen a movie with Sarah Polley in it that I disliked....EVER.
Until now.
The biggest problem was the pacing of the thing. For pity's sake, it moved with along at a clip more commonly associated with making laws and/or decent wine.
That and where was everybody?!! The population of the Danes was THAT frikkin' small? Pay some damn extras! They certainly didn't spend all the budget on special effects.
Avoid this movie.
