Wow, looks great! This battle was also the inspiration of one of the best "Samauri Jack" cartoon eps "Jack And The Spartans".

You know, looking at Jack and the Spartans and now the trailers for 300, there is a lot of similarity to quite a few of the shots: a zillion arrows in the sky, many jumping shots, the slow motion action, exact style of helmets and red robes (perhaps obviously), piles of dead....makes me wonder if Miller and/or the director got the idea in making that style for the 300 movie from watching that episode.

I went to see Blood Diamond and came away just thinking about the trailer for this. I simply cannot wait. You Yanks are so lucky that you get movies much earlier than we do.

Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite.
It looks awesome!
It does look awesome!

But....crap..... there were some really wild looking Persians.
I thought they were going to be fighting different alien races or something!

That's a great piece of history though.
Always imagined that that was where SRD got his idea for the Bloodguard and 2 Lords holding the Raver's army back for so many days in The Illearth War (yeah, I totally forgot the details but I'm sure everyone here knows what I'm talking about).

Gotta love a bottleneck! :D Here's another... In 1066, a couple weeks before William of Normandy (aka William the Bastard) defeated the English at Hastings, the English beat the Vikings at Stamford Bridge. (Small wonder they were beaten by William.) I couldn't guess how long he really lasted, or how many Englishmen he really killed before they took him out, but a lone Viking held the narrow footbridge for a while, to give his friends time to get ready. I think the English eventually had to stab him from below, through the bridge.

Kinda like Brinn on the stairs. :D

Neill Cumpston has seen 300 and written a review!!!!

If this is not significant to you, then let me remind you of this thread. Yes, that Neill Cumpston.
Aint It Cool News wrote:I just saw a movie that’ll give your eyes boners, make your balls scream and make you poop DVD copies of THE TRANSPORTER. It’s called 300. I don’t know what the title has to do with the movie, but they could’ve called it KITTENS MAKING CANDLES and it’d still rule. ...

Basically, the Greek dudes are fighting these Persian dudes, but the director, who must have a dick made of three machine guns, does it all like a video game. The Greeks fight every death metal video from the last ten years. There’s wave after wave of giants, freaks, ninjas, mutants, wizards, and a hunchback who looks like he’s got Rosie O’Donnell on his back. ... [link]

Funny review.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Saw this movie last night - I'd give it a 7/10. Of course the story is a classic, but the acting was subpar. The battle scenes were pretty good, but after a while it was just more of the same. I was a bit disappointed.

I enjoyed it for what it was. I'm going to buy this movie on DVD when it comes out as I think the movie was a piece of visual art. It didn't pack even half the emotional wallop of Steve Pressfield's "Gates of Fire" but it was a very good retelling of Miller's graphic novel. If you're looking for Braveheart you might be disappointed but if your looking for a testosterone charged 2 hour melodramatic blood bath you're in for a treat!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. I loved it and I recommend to every woman on this forum to go and see it. Lots of really well-built men half naked. It can't get any better.

I am totally in love with Leonidas now. HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!!!

:hearts:

However, I saw how much of the chrons could be made. This film was visually stunning. I thought the acting was not bad at all. The special effects were some of the best I've seen. I want to see it again and I will definitely buy it on DVD.
The King has one more move.

I just saw it. I thought it was about as good as "Sin City" - so yeah, it was excellent. The computer cinematography was stunning, the acting was pretty good, the story compelling. I'll probably buy it on DVD as well. Highly recommended.

I wasn't absolutely enchanted, but I thought it was pretty good overall. The whole Queen (name?) at home didn't really do it for me, but that might be because every time I saw Dominic West I thought of Officer Mcnulty from the Wire. I like McNulty, but imagining him as a treacherous politician made me laugh.

Holstey,

I liked the Queen herself , but I agree that the whole in-Sparta subplot was pretty weak.
