Weird Thomas Covenant superstition

I don't know if this is proper place for this, as it really has only a tenuous Covenant connection, but it seems every time I start the Covenant books, my life goes downhill in a big way. I get moody and sad, and everything seems to start to fall apart in my personal life. I don't blame Donaldson. But, it's weird.
But the good thing is that after I finish the Second Chronicles, things dramatically improve, sometimes almost instantaneously, and usually for the better. I've read them 3 times, and each time this has happened. However, now that I've started the Last Chronicles and the books aren't done yet, I seem to be stuck in a crappy life right now. So come on Donaldson...finish the books so my life gets better again!

I know it is superstition, but it seems to have been true each time I've read them. All the dramatically bad twists of fate that have happened in my life have happened while reading the Covenant books. I feel like it is the Covenant Curse.
I must say this didn't happen with the Gap or Mordant's Need. Just Covenant.

Just wanted to share my superstition.

And reread the 1st and 2nd Chrons...maybe finishing the second will jolt you out again...

When I'm rereading the Chrons, I get kinda crabby and snappish 'til I'm done. Not quite the same as having my life go down the drain...altho those around me might think that *their* lives are worse when I'm reading the Chrons.

Yeah, I wondered if it was all me, and that positive thinking goes down the drain (*see "The Secret"), and that I bring it all on myself, but hey...I think some of the twists of fate can't be my fault. So again, Donaldson, if you are reading this, write faster. You are messing up my life!

Honestly, I have tried to read it quickly, but I'm not a speed reader, and so it takes me a few months. I guess when life is going well, I occasionally think I need to sour it by reading some Covenant. Then again, I really like the books, and usually my life improves much more from the stagnation that it becomes before reading it, so that's why I have read it more than once. But yeah...last time I read it, when I was laid off for the first time and wasn't able to find work for a year and 9/11 and all that, I did try to pick up the pace so I could get out of it. After I finished it, I got a good job that I honestly enjoyed, got engaged and looked like I was heading for a happy life.

But since reading Runes, my fiance broke up with me, I was fired, and now I'm about to be laid off again. I didn't start this to whine about my life, but just to try to prod Donaldson along, if he happens to read this. And knowing of my curse, I was hesitant to read Runes, but...hell, I couldn't just not read the books. And I certainly couldn't just say "well, I'll read it when it is finished. Wait 8 some years or whatever to read a new Donaldson book? Insanity, I say! A part of me lives to read what he is putting out next.

Have you considered another hobby, like say, knitting? Although, I guess you could drop a knitting needle inyou lap or something and really ruin your day...

I can't say that reading anything - Covenant or otherwise - had this effect on me. Most strange. Perhaps you're wishing you were in the Land but you're not, and the effect is totally psychological?!?!?!

OK, I jest. Maybe it's just "one of those things" such as my "first call fails" .... nothing to do with Covenant, SRD, or anything else, but if I have a string of phonecalls to make and I don't get through to the first person, then ALL the subsequent phonecalls will go awry as well: wrong number, voicemail, no answer, visitor answers the phone to say the person I want to speak to isn't there, you name it, it'll happen. Except the person I want to speak to being there, that is.

Weird.

I know what you mean! I have read The Wounded Land 3 times, and each time, about halfway through, somebody I knew died. I'm not kidding!

I have never noticed anything of the sort, but then I usually find that I cannot stop reading once I get into the books and usually ends up finishing the whole six books in about a week.
