Interesting. I hope more participate. Lots of my Irish kinfolk here, it seems. Mine came over in 1835 during the Potato famine. I found my first Irish-american namesakes gravestone (and family's) a couple years ago; was very cool.

Anyway, here's my stats:

Nationality: American
Race/Ethnicity: Cauc/(Irish, Norwegian, German)
Where do you live?: Washington, DC
Age:43
Religion: Luthern
Introverted/Extroverted: Ex at work, Int at home, if that makes sense
Level of education: Working on masters
How many hours a day do you spend online?: some days lots, some days none...and when online it's on other nets than the "internet"... ;)
How many outside friends do you have?: 5 good friends
Do you work? Is it a job that requires a computer?: Yes, Yes
What type of work do you do?: Information Assurance for US DoD
Do you go to school? : Not really "Go"; but taking a class
Are you single/ Married? : Single.
What do you like most about your online group of friends? Seem to be nice folks and having TCOTC in common is a bonus.
Has anyone dated anyone in the group of online friends?: not that I know of.
How often do you speak to each other when your not online? : sent a few IM's, about it.
How many hours a week do you work, if you do work? : 40-60 (but when 60+ it's mostly due to air-travel)
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

He doth whine too much, I think.
"Oh of course," the Navigator said with faint mocking in his voice, "you have probably heard of House Praetus. We have a palace on Holy Terra. Like all powerful groups, we also have our enemies. Do you honestly think someone like you matters?" - A dissolute noble.

Dear gods....

8O

Y'know, I poked my head in on the Pantheon a couple of weeks ago, just to see what the fuss was about. And it scared me. So I haven't been back.

Maybe we can get this thread back on track:

nationality? USA
race/ethnicity? white girl (Czech-Irish mostly, plus a few other things)
Where do you live? Alexandria, VA, soon moving to Manassas, VA
age? 49
Religion? pagan
introverted/extroverted? introverted
level of education? masters
How many hours a day do you spend online? I'm connected all day at work, but my surfing hours vary, depending on how much they want me to do actual work. Not much time at home -- mostly then I'm checking e-mail.
How many outside friends do you have? A couple of close friends; many acquaintances, from kid-centered activities and such.
Do you work? Is it a job that requires a computer? Guilty on both counts.
What type of work do you do? I'm a legal secretary.
Do you go to school? Not right now -- Czech school is on summer break.
Are you single/ Married? divorced
What do you like most about your online group of friends? Well, for starters, they're all able to read. Seriously, they're intelligent, articulate, and they have *great* taste in fantasy fiction.
Has anyone dated anyone in the group of online friends? *I* haven't, if that's what you're driving at....
How often do you speak to each other when you're not online? Hardly ever.
How many hours a week do you work, if you do work? 37.5
Any co-morbid disorders? Nope, other than this annoying twitch... ;)

Hardly. I'm not a big fan myself, these days. ;) Of the Admin, I mean. I'm always a fan of DoD.

You didn't used to be so cynical, MM.

Raen has never really been into the online community thing, as many of us obviously are. She truly enjoyed meeting many Watchers in Alb, and seeing how fun and different we all are. That inspired her to make several posts soon after we get back home. But she's still not big into this kind of interaction. (She also once asked if I was ok with her being here, because she didn't want to be invading my space. I've assured her that's not the case, and that I'm thrilled she's gotten to know the people who have meant so much to me for the last 4.5 years. But there might still be that feeling in her somewhere.) So, while she may pop in from time to time, it won't likely be all that often.

But she downloaded the software to correlate the data, and I'll see if I can get her back to it. It would be interesting to see what the strongest correlations are. :D

I like to believe I'm still a romantic idealist, but you could well be right about me. If I'm more cynical now, it may be the cumulative effect over the years of reading posts by and/or corresponding with people here who are themselves far more cynical than I am. I can't help it if some that gets rubbed off on me. I don't exist in a vacuum.

In other words, the Watch itself didn't used to be so cynical either.

Ah, but it's matured my friend, and sometimes cynicism is a side-effect. ;) Sometimes not, but...

First off, I should never make any assumption based on such a small sample. It is fun to see comparisons and stuff though. I think the most interesting question is what do you like most about your online friends? This is one thing that many non-posters do not understand. How can you trust and make friends with people from the internet that you don't even know. Interacting with people from the internet is so different than real life interactions. I know many people have met each other in real life but in the beginning there were no voices to people, no real names and no faces to match with the Avatars. So in theory, you could all be axe murders! Now I'm being cynical LOL!

Raen and I entered the info on all 35 of us who answered. Alas, that's not all that many to get any good information, but it's still interesting. For example, no females are in the 20-or-less age range, but (iirc) 3 males are. (Haruchai and Firedaughter are the only females I can think of off hand who are less than 20.)

And, while many more males responded, and there are more males than females in all age groups, there are more males in the 30-40 group than 40-50; but more females 40-50 than 30-40. That's the only pair of age groups that switched between male and female.

(I hope that makes sense...)
