As Luci said, you're welcome to check out the Chronicles chapter reads to see how we did it (and survived). But, anyway, she gave you the clean, sanitized version of how it's done. But to get a better sense of the terror of it all, I present:

Doing Donaldson Dissections - The Real Story

1. Volunteer or be volunteered to summarize a chapter chosen by you or chosen by the group leader

2. Read your assigned chapter critically, take notes...or not

3. After your initial burst of enthusiasm, blink twice and shudder in cold panic as you realize what you've gotten yourself into

4. Go and do other actual fun stuff, while deluding yourself that it'll all come together by itself in your head when the time comes for you to actually write the damn thing

5. Blissfully ignore the first few tentative reminders from your group leader that your dissection is due shortly

6. As increasingly worried PM's from your group leader start piling in your inbox, avoid the Gap forum altogether while you desperately try to read the half-legible notes you had taken...or if you didn't take notes, re-read the chapter and write your dissection as you go, typing by the seat of your pants

7. Finally submit your dissection after the other Gap participants have given you up for dead - or just at one of Jenn's parties

8. Decide that you might just want to do another chapter, cuz all Watchers are masochistic to a degree
Damn if this isn't exactly how it happens - from a group leader/dissecting mod's POV.

I started reading TRS sometime ago, then stopped. I may get back into it and follow along, but I doubt that I'll do a chapter since FR dissection is tentatively scheduled for early 2008.

We can fit in TRS before FR if we're sharp. It's a short book. :D

Alright, so I've started reading TRS (I'll be done in a few days.)

When is the discussion going down? And also, can someone PM me a crash course? I've never done this before. :D

Just have a look at one of the other dissection forums. It's not exactly rocket science. ;)

If there are any available spots, I may be able to do a chapter. Or I can serve as a super sub, heh.-jay

I would be willing to get in on this with a big BUTT and not the one I am currently sitting on. Fatal Revenant comes out in the end of October. If you start the read in October I am gonna be too busy with my TC chrons reread beginning with LFB and ending in FR. Now...if y'all wanted to start in early November, that might be a little more realistic for me.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

TOTALLY started the second in the series.

I've been waiting for some SRD Sci-Fi my whole life, WHY have I only read them now!? I think this rates higher than TC. Looking forward to the dissections.

Is there a Which is better, Chronicles or Gap thread anywhere? (Damn you, broken Search function!)

If there isn't, I should start one. That would be interesting.

I think there is one of those in the Gap forum, I believe.

It's been a while since I read both, but I remember being much more in awe of the Gap. It's a series that kept getting better in better.

On the other hand, the 2nd Chronicles were good/great, but they didn't make my head explode like the Gap series did.-jay(Well, they did, but I guess not as much, heh.)

I think the Gap is better for what it is. The excellence of it doesn't diminish the quality of the Chrons. But I think the writing is better.
