Too bad the cover on Amazon isn't a more detailed image. I was trying to see if it might be Covenant himself.

Haven't seen the cover, but judging by samples of Palencar's other work, I do like his style.

(However, Darrell K. Sweet will always be my sentimental choice as favorite Chronicles cover artist.)

I think DlbPharmd put forth its a forrestal,
Spoiler
one that Linden meets in the past. We know she travels to garroting deep in the lands past, according to spoilers on Amazon UK, etc... so it makes sense.

Why can't it be a Dead forestal? The transparent cloak and the robe that goes down past his feet, as if he's floating, prompt me to think 'ghost'.

OK, but why would the ghost of a dead forrestal make the cover? I mean, how much could a dead guy affect the story line? nope, I think its a blast from the past.

We don't know for certain that all the forestals are dead. It was just given as highly likely as far as we know.

I agree, I'll always be partial to the DKS covers.

Actually, we do know this - Caerroil Wildwood died prior to the Sunbane, the forests were subsequently destroyed by the Sunbane, which forced Caer-Caveral (the last Forestal) to Andelain, and we all know what happened to him. We have no evidence as yet that the Land has forests now, but there's no way that any forests could generate new Forestals.

How'd I miss this topic? Shouldn't we move all of this FR cover talk to the FR forum? Unless you all don't care...-jay

Jay, some people wanted to talk about the cover without getting into the FR forum and all the spoilers there.

----

BTW, it can't be [Dead] Caer Caveral because the dude has eyes. So I retract my guess.

I'm tempted to call this cover something that is only vaguely suggested by the story ... but the Runes cover actually was a scene from Runes (although it wasn't how I imagined it when reading it). Not a critical scene or an action scene or even a closeup, but it's there nonetheless.

Wah?!?! How come? Or is it a FR spoiler?

Ok, that's fine. I just thought that one might consider the cover art to be a spoiler in itself.-jay

Yeah, I thought about that too, but the cover is common knowledge on the net now--cover talk is fine , but folks REALLY watch your spoliers here-I don't want to cover them up-so do subscribe to the FR forum if you want to talk spoilers.

Not a spoiler, just my opinion. New Forestals would require new Forests that exhibited sentience, significant collective power, and the knowledge of how to create a Forestal. I don't see that being possible in just 3500 years of growth.

Agreed. I read the spoiler before I realized what I was doing (guess I'm too used to them from the Dissection, where I've already read the whole book...)

It isn't that big of a deal, and was something I could've guessed since I found some graphics I didn't want to while surfing SRD's site one day... but still...

I don't think it's so much a time factor (although we've seen no evidence of forests yet). It seems that the One Forest existed for much longer than that, and it still took an Elohim before they could create Forestals.

Don't have a guess who it is, but immediate thought was, Jeez, that looks like Saruman, or Gandalf the White from LOTR. It's three months until publication (three months - aarrggghhhhh!), so it could change you know. I'm not crazy about it, but I'm interested in what's INSIDE more than what's outside. Major spoiler on Amazon. Shame......... Anyone else pre-ordering???
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

Is it a spoiler answer if I ask who that is?

Bump.

It's gotta be Saruman. Linden must discover how to use a ceasure to go to the Third Age of Middle Earth. And so we finally uncover why the Chronicles is so similar to The Lord of the Rings. :)

That's kastenessen on the cover, or however you spell it, the elohim who destroyed the durance.

That's not quite what SRD's mental imagery had made me picture an Elohim as, though.
