Ah, I thought Dlb meant financially. If the US publishers suck though...no, I get it...other publishers might say "Low US sales..."

Still, it is the Last Chronicles... ;)

Hi.

I'm at a new job, on a new PC, with IE 6.0.

I can't get the "New" number to appear in the GI. I added the website to trusted sites, and explicitly allowed all cookies, but that didn't work. Can someone remind me how to configure IE so I can track new questions?

The timemark cookie is only set when you click on the New link (that may be the problem).

Here are some links to directly set the cookie to the current timemark, and to delete the cookie. If you use the one to delete the cookie it "should" do it immediately, but just to be sure you should restart the browser after doing it:

Set Cookie:
www.StephenRDonaldson.com/fromtheauthor/setcookie.php

Delete Cookie:
www.StephenRDonaldson.com/fromtheauthor ... cookie.php

Also remember that the cookie is domain specific. So the cookie set for "www.StephenRDonaldson.com" won't be read if you then visit it via "www.StephenDonaldson.com" (without the "R") or "www.FatalRevenant.com" (etc).

Thanks, Romeo! I've not been able to see the "new" post link in the GI lately, either. I clicked the "set cookie" link -- we'll see if that fixes the problem....

I have all the book names (.com) registered. But they're just forwarded to StephenRDonaldson.com. :-)

Let me know if those links help!

If you click the "New" link (either viewing online or downloading to a file), a cookie is set with the current date/time stored in it. When SRD answers a question, the current date/time is stored in the database along with the answer. So when you go to that page, it just counts the answered questions that have a date/time greater than the one in the cookie.

Sorry, I was unclear in my question. How do I get a New link if I don't have a cookie normally, without using your magic special link?

On some computers I have a New link, and I never used your special link.

:highjacked:

Yeah, I know. Apologies.

Aha. Good question - it led me right to the problem (since I wanted to check the code before I answered).

The main GI page sets the cookie if there is currently no cookie. That's how it's supposed to work, but I didn't have the proper code in there. I just fixed it, so it "should" work now - let me know if it doesn't.

Someone posted in the GI a month or two ago that we should add the songs from the Covenant books to the Poetry list in the "From the Author" section. I just got those uploaded, so enjoy! (and if anyone sees my son at the FBH wrap-up party, you can thank *him* for getting it done because I passed all the grunt work on to him)

In the GI today, SRD summarizes each book of the second chronicles with one line!
Spoiler
But Just For Fun:
The Runes of the Earth: "This is impossible."
Fatal Revenant: "You thought *that* was impossible? Just take a look at *this*!"
Against All Things Ending: "I'll never be a good enough writer to carry this off."
The Last Dark: "God send that my readers won't be *too* disappointed."
<grin>
:D

WF, do they really give anything away? (I don't really want to wait 6 years to be able to read them ;-) Still, glad you spoilered them...

Too bad he didn't also include the first 6!

I think he was referring to how difficult they were (or will be) to write - not the plot lines or difficulties the characters are encountering.

Yeah not really a spoiler...read without fear.

Good idea about the songs/poetry. Couple of my favourite parts, the Songs of the Unhomed and the Appointed.

Hmmmm - I can't find these songs on SRD's website.
