The Heat shootout deserves #1, Hardboiled is awesome, but I'm OK with it being #2.
I think the Tech Noir shootout in The Terminator is better than the police station.
The only possible gripe I have is the inclusion of The Matrix. I just loathe the style of the action sequences in it. But I understand I'm in the minority.

I dissliked the movie, "The Way of the Gun" so much; it's hard to like even a good shootout from it.
I perfered the Shoot-out in Terminator 2...the one with the gun hidden in the box of flowers to Terminator 1.

Haven't seen all the films listed, but it seems like a well-rounded group. I love a good movie shootout as well as anyone.
By the time I got to the Top 10 with still no mention of Heat, I was working up a rant...so I was happily surprised and mollified that it ended up being their #1 pick. But it should be said that the bank robbery shootout is just one of the many memorable sequences in this magnificent movie.
I regret not catching Open Range when it came out, as I've heard good things about it. Definitely a movie-to-watch (or *cough*download*cough*) on my list. Actually, I often just wait for movies I missed to air on TV. I'm old-fashioned that way.
It was inevitable that the Matrix lobby shootout would be on the list. What can I say? It's a no-brainer that I love this sequence and everything else about the movie. It's just that there is so much more to this film than this one scene, iconic though it is. I'd just hate to think that people who've never seen the whole movie would just see clips of this endlessly referenced lobby shootout and go "whatever" and move on. And that's all I'm gonna say about the Matrix here before Cail bans me.

This thread inspired me to watch all of Heat (only saw parts of it). Definitely a great film; a well-crafted flick--solid all the way through. I also understand why it got #1 shoot-out!
Glad you liked Heat, LF! I only recently acquired the 2-disc special edition, but haven't watched it yet.
