omg, I've worked on pc's and peripherals from garages, and they are absolutely FILTHY! half the problem with them is the dang environment most times. the only thing worse than a garage is a farm, heh. I like the smell of grime and oil, but cow and chicken poop particles are another thing entirely......
FWIW: spraying computers, printers, etc all over with WD40 will NOT fix them!

Yeah, it's a dirty job but it's what we in the industry call clean dirt. Very little can live in the chemicals we use and in the fluids of your car. No bacteria or disease enducing stuff as you find in farming. In fact we almost never encounter biological stuff at all. The few times that come to mind are the mouse nest we found in the blower motor of a customer's car and my favorite....
Melissa calls and says, "There's something wrong with my brakes. When I first used them this morning they made a horrible crunching noise and now my whole car smells really bad." I told her to bring it in right away. We took off the front tires and found the crispy remains of a rat wedged into the brake caliper. Gross. We had to scrape fur and such off the rotors.

But of course I mean nothing by it. I have a terrible sense of humor and watch too much Family Guy. Anything for a joke.

Guns, you are way too sweet.
The LeCar needed a new squirrel for sure! I'll take some pics to indulge you guys and your LeCar humor!

A guy walks into a parts store and asks "Mirror for a LeCar?" The guy behind the counter says "Sounds like a good trade!"

Q. Why do LeCars have heated rear windows?
A. Keeps your hands warm when you push them!

Don't misunderstand -- I thought it was funny, too. Like you said, anything for a joke...Cagliostro wrote:I'm a pig. What can I say?aliantha wrote:I was *gonna* say that I'll probably take you up on that, Jenn -- but after Cag's comment, I'm speechless.

More Lecar Pics..

In that last shot, the black cannister like object is where the squirrel goes, unfortunately, they were out of squirrels and my attempts at catching one in Golden Gate Park were fruitless. I was forced to turkey tie two rats in tandem instead....

You've got a cool job, CMJ. It's honest work, as they say. If there's one thing that could make me go back to school, it would be to learn a trade.
I'm not a car aficionado, so I ask in complete ignorance: why is everyone treating the LeCar like it's got leprosy? Is it a poorly designed vehicle? Is it just a North American aversion to small cars?

Yes, Phantasm, the steering wheel is on the wrong side. Seriously MM, back in the 80's the Renault LeCar was the epitome of "economy" cars. Small, cheap and simple. They were also not designed or built to last all that long. In other words, at this point in time it is a miracle there are still any of them on the road in the US and the ones that are have long since been patched together with duct tape and prayer.

Well, they actually still make them in Europe so we have been able to get some hard to find parts shipped over.

The Le Car was the Americanized version of the Renault 5, wasn't it?
It (the Le Car) was the piece 'o crap du jour before the Yugo was unleashed on the American car-buying public. A friend had one with the fabric roof, which did a nice job of dispersing rainwater all over the interior of the car rather than just restricting it to the gaping hole in the roof. Loaded down with 4 high school students and their beer, it had trouble making it across the intersection before the light turned red again. You could nearly tip it over by leaning on it (and if you weren't careful, you'd dent it just by touching it).
I had an '80 Ford Fiesta that was a huge luxury car compared to the Le Car.
