I thought it was him as well when I saw it. I think the cover is ok.
Romeo wrote:I like it. But then I like most of the other covers as well. The only one I didn't warm up to was the Sweet cover for The One Tree. I even like the more simple UK covers.
I think that cover for The One Tree is probably my favorite. To me it catches the essence of Chant as a haughty little p----.

Conversely, I really don't care for most of the UK covers. Matter of taste, I guess.

Having never read the book...it's hard to judge wether the cover is any good or not.

I just hope that there is a scene that has something to do with that picture in the book.
If there is...then it's a good cover.
If not...it's crap.

But while we're guessing who it is...my guess is either Lord Mhoram, or a forestal

But I think the jury is still out as to who it is on TPTP cover.

No worries - it's not like the French covers for Mordant's Need - with the heavily armoured figures (except for the females, who are scantilly armoured). :-)

When you read the book, I'm sure you will think the cover more appropriate. It could have been tweaked here and there, but even the covers that people think accurately convey a scene or character are sure to be filled with plenty of "flaws." Just remember that the cover isn't in the author's control. It's to help market and sell the book. And the artist gets their direction from the publisher.

But I think you'll like it more after reading the book. (if for no other reason than it's a kick BUTT book! maybe that's why there's no butt in this cover art - it's been kicked entirely out of the scene)

Of course, that means Jay will NEVER like the cover. *sigh* He reads slower than Heatherly and Jenn! :-)
And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

Really! Ack!!!!!

They should have just thrown a jagged piece of puke-orange carpet on all of the covers and said, "Here's your Fatal Remnant!" :P

A Lord should have been dressed in a blue robe.

I'm guessing a forestal. Carerroil Wildwood was described as being robed in white, although he didn't have a staff, but rather a tree limb sceptre.
Spoiler
And there are hints on SRD's website trailer for FR that we're going to revisit Gallows Howe.

Well looking at the final cover, all I have to say is that Christopher Lee has fallen on hard times to pose for a book cover.
What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?

Yeah. It was all down hill for him after Kingdom Hearts 2.

I'm blissfully not the only one with that privilege - I'm *infinitely* pleased and relieved that Steve pulled Jenn and Seareach into the project!

It's been ages since I read Runes, but could that be Esmer? Definitely too dignified and sane-looking for Anele (as we know him now, at least).

Hile Troy is described as dressed in "whitest sendaline." However it appears that this guy at least has eyelids (hard to tell). Plus his staff isn't gnarly, although that's a rather minor detail. He might fit with some of the hints dropped about plot details as well.

The UK cover is much better - Amazon.co.uk - and it actually seems to match the the RoTE - matching books on a bookshelf <sigh>.
If anything the cover for you guys in the US has created some debate!!!
High Lord Mhoram ROCKS! -
But now Mhoram felt the fire which burned against his flesh under his robe. In a rush of exultation, he understood it, grasped its meaning intuitively. As the Stone reached its height over his head, he tore open his robe and grasped Loric's krill.

Its gem blazed like a hot white brazier in his hands. It was charged to overflowing with echoes of wild magic; he could feel its keenness as he gripped its hilt.

It was a weapon strong enough to bear any might.
