Oh yeah, Ducky's great too. There's a great episode in the second season in which Abby asks Gibbs what Ducky looked like when he was young, Gibbs answers, "Illya Kuryakin".

I mean seriously, I don't think you could dream up a better ensemble cast, and the writing for them is just dead-nuts perfect.

From today's GI:
Anonymous: In a recent response to who is you favorite character, you answered; "My "favorites" change from day to day, mood to mood, context to context, even minute to minute. At the moment, I'm feeling especially fond of Hashi Lebwohl."
==============================================
Hashi happens to be my favorite character and I was wondering why (after all this time) your thoughts would be centered on him of late? Just curious!

<sigh> I see it's Embarrass the Author Time again. But you couldn't have known, so you're forgiven.

One of my guilty pleasures is that I watch TV shows like "NCIS". (This is a guilty pleasure because it isn't exactly a productive use of my time.) David McCallum plays Dr Mallard; and watching him (probably the best actor in the cast), I was recently struck by the idea that he might make a good Hashi Lebwohl. I think he has the necessary "range". And he has a gift for seeming simultaneously befuddled and insightful. So Hashi has been on my mind.

I can see it. But I thought Hashi was a lot younger (it's been ten years since I read the Gap, but he was also my favorite character).
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Ducky as Hashi. I can definitely see it.

There must be something to this series, it's been on "short wait" on Blockbuster online and at the top of my queue for weeks now.

I've watched the first 4 episodes of Season 1 - my wife came into the room and said "NCIS? I love this show!" Somehow she knew all about it and I knew nothing. Then she goes on to tell me that my sister watches this show because she's got the hots for Mark Harmon. ;)

The first 4 episodes were pretty good - no telling when I'll get the next disc though.

[edit, talking about my oldest sister.]

For the record, I've never met DLB's wife or sister(s).

Glad you enjoyed the episodes.

Just finished season 2 - somehow managed to avoid any and all spoilers beforehand. Awesome show, but didn't expect   .

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

Yeah, the ending of season 2 was a shocker. Season 3 deals with it very well.

This must be the greatest show ever as far as DVD series go. I can't get any of them from Blockbuster Online. I've been watching some re-runs and I'm watching this season.

Yes, what I've seen so far has been very good. I came in at the point where DiNozzo was dating the doctor, and have kept up with it after that. I do have to question your devotion to the goth chick, though. You're dropping your standards. ;)

Sorry man, there's just something about brainiac goth chicks....

Season 4's out, and I'm really digging season 5 so far.

Odd that it's consistently in the top 10 ratings-wise yet it gets no buzz.
