UrThor: "Gaping". Not "Cavernous". :)

Going in the correct direction.

"Pimp my ur-vile!"
LOL

I like it. But I agree, those are cavernous nostrils, and they still look "eyeish."

I wonder if putting a small bridge of a nose up between them could fool the human noggin' into making them nostrils.

Or would it turn them into exhaust pipes?

Xar wrote:That's a rather good picture! :D Personally, I imagine Ur-viles with a more simian posture - probably longer arms, gangly limbs (for example, I do not imagine their biceps showing, even if they have them). Because of the simian posture (after all, they run on all fours), I also imagine them somewhat hunchbacked.

Incidentally, if you don't mind a comment, the nostrils tend to register as eyes in the picture, probably due to their shape and/or positioning (because they are in relief when compared to the upper head, they seem to have "eyebrows"...)
Really? I think making them more upright makes them look more intellegent, whereas drawing them as simian would diminish it. Part of what seperates Ur-Viles from the classical fantasy baddies is their keen intellect and Lore that not only rivals, but in many ways surpasses that of the Lords.

I'm ok with the nostrils looking like eyes, just not *that* much :). I am in most ways very satisfied by this drawing. I think it really captures something close to my imagination. I just think he is lacking in at least enough clothing to hold a knife, a staff, or provisions.

I always get the impression that they don't wear clothes, and that the various implements they produce come from lore. When they're done w/ that object they "reabsorb" it back into themselves.

Wasn't Vain described as being more like a human male, except that he was completely jet black? :?

Yes, but Vain was not a typical Ur-vile... in fact, if I remember correctly, he also had eyes, and there was no mention of "gaping nostrils" anywhere in his description. Differently from standard ur-viles, Vain looked like a human being, didn't he?

Yes, I meant to include that. Sorry. I'm not allowed to discuss details, but he did appear to be human, aside from the jet black skin, jet black teeth, jet black gums, eyes, hair. I don't recall him having facial hair, though.

Alright, thanks hue, your sketches show a few different ideas for head shape, proportions, nostril placement etc, definitely inspirational.

as for Vain, I also remember him being described as looking like a perfect human male, jet black including eyes teeth gums etc, for some reason though I didn't think that he had any hair?

This is from TWL about Vain
[quote] He wore a short gray tunic, and under it all his skin from head to toe was as black as the gaps between the stars. His form was perfectly shaped and strong; but his hair was black, his teeth and gums were black, his pupilless eyes were pure midnight. he held himself as if he were oblivious to the Dead and the Forestal and Covenent. His eye gazed emptily, regarding nothing.[quote]
