Doesn't Amazon usually do that for new releases? Mail it a day or two before so it arrives on release day? I've seen that before from them, and also from places like Buy.com for new DVD releases.
Don't know about the others, but Amazon isn't doing same day delivery for FR. I'm buying my personal copy from a book store in a nearby town (or actually my wife is, I'll be stuck at work.) Amazon expects delivery sometime between Oct. 12-16.
I checked yesterday to see if I could get it for sure before he gets here on the 12th, but Amazon said they were going to ship on the 9th. I'm going to buy it at the bookstore the night of his talk.

Damn. (I was going to suggest the Book Depository, who proclaim "free delivery worldwide", but I checked and apparently "worldwide" doesn't include Africa.)
Can't buy things on-line anyway. No credit card. Nah, I'll wait. I've got a gift certificate for a big bookstore chain that I've been saving since April to use for FR.
To answer the previous questions ... I'll be running up to the book store today to get my copy. I placed my preorder with Amazon back in March, and since then my credit card was compromised and I had to get a new one. So when they sent me the "your credit card didn't work" notice yesterday, I just cancelled the order and figured I'd get a copy locally.
My order has completely disappeared off the face of Amazon-tracking #, everything--it's like I never ordered it. OH well--guess I have to run out and buy it!
