The battle of First Woodhelven is worth the price of admission!!!
Agreed, it's the best battle we've ever seen in the Chronicles.

Okay, before I read FR, I would have given ROTE 4/10. Now that I've read FR, I see why some of the earlier torture was necessary. So...

ROTE: 5.5/10 (still can't stand it)
FR: 9/10

Point deductions as follows:
Spoiler
- .5 points for the obnoxious number of times I had to read the words, "He's doing this to my son," or "I have to save my son," or anything else in that vein (and yes, I know it was necessary to show that Linden has a one-track mind and isn't thinking clearly, but still -- I was already sick of it by the end of Runes)

- .5 points for Haruchai issues in general: 1) I'm still finding it difficult to bond with the Haruchai as a group in this book (the fact that Stave is cool doesn't cut it) because they're still being stupid; 2) Stave calling Linden by her first name twice, which bothered me for some inexplicable reason
“...The conversations had a nightmare flatness, talking dice spilled in the tube metal chairs, human aggregates disintegrating in cosmic inanity, random events in a dying universe where everything is exactly what it appears to be and no other relation than juxtaposition is possible.”

“There are two kinds of sufferers in this world: those who suffer from a lack of life, and those who suffer from an overabundance.”

"Meantime we shall express our darker purpose."

Ok .. I am just past the battle.

Still yet to get to the end. and I have changed my mind... again..

Fatal Revenant appears to be the Compendium of what happened in the 1st Chronicles & 2nd Chronicles and much more.

SRD has created a MASTERPIECE with this book. No LESS!!!

BRAVO!!! Mr. Donnelson. BRAVO!!!

I think Stave calling Linden by her first name is significant, and it might come out in AATE; perhaps a love triangle between her, covenant and Stave?

I didnt spoiler -- this is the FR forum. :)

Stave and Linden???? Stone and Sea, forfend!!!! I like everything SRD writes, but this book didn't make me jump up and down and holler, except when Linden shouted "Nom" and when the Giants showed up. The rest was lukewarm for me. Sorry, I don't rate this as highly as any of the other books. Don't shoot me with your superior intellect lasers, either. It's only a matter of opinion, okay? Speaking of guessing, at the beginning or ROTE, when I read that Linden had a son (first time she mentioned it at ALL), I was thinking "OMG, did she come back from the Land pregnant with TC's child?" I was freaking out, although I knew it was impossible, until she explained quickly thereafter. Talk about your "I can't breathe" moments!!! :!!!:
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

Ok, finished last night so I'm still at the "wow... just.... wow...." stage.

I'm sticking with the "it defies scoring" defense for now.

9.5, I loved it, best action in a very long time, great cliffhanger, and I got teary eyed at a few parts (first time that happened since Saltheart crossing Hotash Slay) SRD's best work in a long time.
