What is Thomas Covenant's ethnic origin?

Post by aTOMiC »

I think his physical description and speech patterns sort of give TC away but I'm wondering what the rest of you think.

What was Covenant's middle name?
Who were his parents?
How many siblings did TC have?
What is his shoe size?
Boxers or briefs?
Favorite aftershave?
Hmmmm...

i really tried not to post in this topic, i told myself it wasn't worth it...but it just kept calling out myn name.. so, i think TC was American

he didn't have a middle name

his parents were called mum and dad

one sibling, who mysteriously went into a comma at an early age, he was called Berek

his shoe size is 10, (english shoe size that is)

tch...boxers

aftershave...im not sure he even wore aftershave

You forgot one: What are the titles of his books?

Anyway, he's American, but as I already noted, there's no family information available. I think he wore briefs, and used Old Spice. Shoe size probably was 10 (American), and his middle name may have been mentioned, but I can't remember it. It should be on his utility bill, though :screwy:

Well the fact that the description of the town that TC lived in and the mention of a sheriff and night club and so forth clearly indicates that Covenant was American... however I suspect that he was English (or at least UK) of descent because of his continual use of Bloody which is an Engrish idiom as in "I'm not your bloody Berek!" "Bloody Hell" and so forth.
His use of language and profanity is different; Hellfire! Damnnation! etc. I don't know of a lot of other people who use this type of language. But then again I still don't know everything now do I??

Since there have been repeated references to America and American I have to conclude that "Nationality" was a somewhat ambiguous or misleading part of my question. I have amended the original post better reflect my original intent. :-)

You don't come from an ethnic origin; that's not proper english. You should once again edit your title to say "What is Thomas Covenant's ethnic origin?", which I would be inclinded to say "Anglo-Saxon". :screwy:

I'm no Nazi. I'm half-Nazi, and the other half Anglo-Saxon, just like Covenant. Hellfire and damnation! You think you'd remember that by now. :screwy:

You don't really expect me to keep track of such things. I can't even remember what I had for lunch. Wait. Ravioli. Okay you win.

TC is a WASP, with the WASP's biblical fear of leprosy. He tries to hide it with a 20th century educated mindset, but it's there.

And I had a bologna sandwich for lunch.

Actually I'd have said hellfire and brimstone were more of a catholic thing. Don't make me go sectarian on your ass.

Bloody is such a British word, I think he must have at least one british relative. Probably from somewhere up north, as he'd be more likely to say 'cor blimey' if he was part Londoner. Off the top of my head I'll say his Grandmother was from Leeds.

Anyway, he's American. His accent is one of the reasons he sticks out in the Land, because the great law of fantasy is that everybody speaks BBC English

A last name like "Covenant" would seem to suggest English descent, would it not? Unless he was descended from some immigrants with a very strange sense of humor...

The simplest way to remember it is that protestants are catholics who have gone 'back to basics' and Catholicism is the faith that put the 'fear' into 'fear of God'.

I might have to put Jedi Academy on my Christmas list. Kyle and Luke are your instructors.

Very cool. I'll have to beg Santa (wife) to get it for me. Or I'll just run down to Best Buy on my lunch break. Either way. :-)
