I want Vain smilies. It'd so simplify things. There'd just be two facial expressions. Well, there'd be impassive, and then about forty shades of 'feral grin that reminds you of his Ur-Vile makers.'

I've never liked smilies done in that style--it's why I usually turn smilies off in msn messenger. The tongue-stuck-out smilie (the one here is the same as the msn one) is just horrible.

I definitely prefer :| over :razz:

If this is what the MSN Messenger smilies look like, I'll stick with the Yahoo Messenger ones...

...but they're still better than the Santa smilies, so thank you Vain...

It's surprising how strongly people feel about emoticons.

Oh, wait, I'm not that surprised. I still remember the uproar over the Brown colour scheme. :wink:

The new smilies don't bother me. Maybe I've been desensitized by too much emoticon violence at the movies; I admit to having seen Night of the Living Smiley an unhealthy number of times in my teens. But I got over that. No, really, I did.
